Thanks this show may be cheesy, but it's a lot of fun, and holds a special place in my heart I'm glad we're finally getting a Blu-Ray release of it after all these years. I won't be buying it at that price though probably when it gets to 50, or 60 dollars so I'll probably put off buying this for now.

This is now listed at Movies Unlimited for $76.49 ($89.99 list price). If you hurry, you can still use the 20% off code MUMAR25 before the end of March, which takes it down to $61.19 before taxes, with free shipping:

https://www.moviesunlimited.com/capt...e/883929836765

The April Warner Archive Collection titles have also just gone up there for the lower $18.69 price, so with the code they become $14.95 each before taxes.

I love Captain Planet! Watched a few episodes recently when the DVDs came out and find they hold up okay. Sometimes they hold up TOO WELL when it comes to ongoing environmental issues. Glad I waited to buy for the Blu Ray release!

Yes, very. Owned by Alliance, same parent company as Deep Discount and others.

There's an active thread for them in the Deals Section:

Hopefully gets a UK release. Would be nice if they included extra features. Interested to know what other DIC shows survive as film negatives.

Not me, this is a great show!

Ted Turner asked for the negatives to be kept.

I’d be VERY surprised if it’s not. Unless someone knows better, every WHV BD I’ve ever bought has been region free.

I’m really looking forward to this release, I loved this show as a kid.

Doesnt seem to show any block. Will wait for confirmation and then snag one probably as I presume there won't be many printed to begin with.

Since this got a blu ray release, what r the chances or the Ben 10 Franchise getting a blu ray version?

While not zero, I wouldn't bet on it personally. Cartoon Network stuff is rarely put on Blu-ray in general, and given this is a weird instance of a vintage Hanna-Barbera show technically being under the CN umbrella, I'm not sure it's indicative of other CN shows getting Blu-ray sets.

Ben 10 is likely going to reuse a bunch of old disc masters from prior DVD releases, too- it's effectively a repackage with a few new discs to finish Omniverse. Making a Blu-ray set would likely require a lot of new masters to be made considering the length of the show. The set would be twice as big as Captain Planet and probably have a smaller audience, it's probably a harder sell on their part when a DVD set is fine for most consumers.

Seeing the model being followed, Ben 10 might be a good guess. They are releasing a "Complete Collection" DVD set spanning all the shows (not counting the reboot) in May seeing what they did for Captain Planet, it is possible in my eyes if the set sells well. Keyword would be sells well as this doesn't necessarily confirm a Blu Ray, I think they'll only go through with doing HD masters if people actually buy this set, I imagine it'd be easy with it being digitally made so an upgrade should hypothetically be easy.

I wonder if Warner will ever release more Adult Swim shows on Blu-ray like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Seasons 1 to 4 of Robot Chicken, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Superjail and Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law

It seems the end credits were upscaled from a tape source, at least for S1 for the episodes I've checked so far.

Yeah it looks like the opening and endings are all upscaled

In many episodes some shots are also upscaled (lost film elements?)

If they do release Ben 10 on blu ray I would prefer they release each series as it's own set.

It sadly seems the credits ARE upscaled. Just like the Planeteer Alert bumpers. Those were mastered on tape? I imagine those both wouldnt be hard to remake. The bumper is literally 2 seconds long and pretty simple. The credits... While I understand they were made specially without show scenes, it's unfortunate cause that intro is hype.

As for the quality drops throughout, I find that weird. And have only two logical answers:

One, Simpsons treatment where with the new masters they too have scenes which are crystal clear but for some "less important" scenes they didn't bother to actually remaster.

Or two, for some reason those several scenes in each episode (namely of the og series it seems mostly) have had the prints damaged/lost so they sourced it from tape/vhs.

Two seems more likely. Which is unfortunate. I'd like to count how many minutes or hours it totals. To have a % of SD content in this remaster. To me it seems from the clips they posted online it could be maybe 1 minute per episode, so let's estimate... 100 minutes total with 100+ episodes? That'd be from 2600 minutes... like 3,5-4% of content being lost. Hmm.

Anyhow, even without bonuses, if this really is region free without any workarounds... then I'm gonna grab it for 99. I doubt it will get a UK/AU release soon, let alone one which will be better. Plus I have a feeling this has low stock tobegin with.
