The post I originally responded to said:

Quote:
Can somebody explain to me why CONVOY 4K is retailing for $44.95 on Amazon? Sold off my Blu-ray and was about to pre-order this when I saw the price.
And I responded that no one will pay that price because Kino is selling it directly for $15 less and Amazon's price will go back down to reality before release date. Even Kino doesn't ever sell direct at their MSRP.

I then mentioned Lionsgate Limited as another example of a phony "MSRP" that they literally never charge and that no one else ever charges because LL is the one and only place you can buy those disks.

This has obviously turned into a pointless discussion not worth continuing. So I certainly won't!

That list price is just an imaginary number, I wonder if anyone ever pays that much. The real mystery is why Amazon's algorithm is pricing it at that fake list of $44.95. That's what looks like price gouging.

However, recently I've seen on Amazon other disks from other labels first come out at the full, imaginary MSRP price for pre-orders and then come back down to reality long before the disk actually ships. Amazon's pre-order price guarantee means you'll pay the lowest price they ask between the time you order and the end of release day. For most disks--except some boutique "Limited Editions"--that usually ends up being significantly less than the MSRP.

That higher 4K price does allow Kino to ask for a couple bucks more for the newer disks during their quarterly sales, B&N 50% off sales, etc.

But if Kino were just jacking up prices in general, you'd expect them to do it on their more numerous BD releases. And those disk MSRP's remain the same.
I think I understand what your saying. I didn't see the Kino markdown until just now.

Amazon is using it more as a place holder but it allows Kino to inch up the price a little more if they choose to, maybe to cover the extra cost to sell on Amazon or the free shipping? Am I following that correctly?

[Show spoiler]

So if I order from Amazon, which I prefer, then it should price match the Kino Website price roughly, give or take a few bucks. Sometimes I've seen bigger disparages in prices between Amazon and Kino for older BD titles, maybe recent returns to the warehouse, not sure. As you pointed out, Amazon has some strange algorithim they are using to set prices separate from other retailers.

But to MifuneFan's point, new releases do seem to be creeping up in price. Maybe not as drastically as the Amazon listing. Still I appreciate the clarification.

Also, because the extended cut bits are really nothing that special (at least, for the price that Imprint was charging).

Any significant additions like new scenes or is it a line of dialogue here and there?

The majority of the cut bits are minor extensions of existing scenes. The newer scenes are insignificant (ex: a cutaway of a trucker in a bar, watching the news interviews, saying something along the lines of "I'm a trucker and I'm gonna join that convoy" and a slight-montage of trucks driving with Kristofferson singing in-character). The "Lost Convoy: 2024 Video Essay by Mike Siegel" extra talks and shows these deleted scenes.

I did a breakdown on the Imprint thread:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=23

Just so everyone knows, most, but not all, of the extended scenes are in the features "The Lost Convoy" as well as the updated version of the "Passion and Poetry: Sam's Trucker Movie" documentary.

Great news! All those extras are worth a Day 1 pre-order on this.

To sum it up, what is Kino missing from the Imprint release?

The Kino is identical to the Studio Canal release. The Imprint release had all of this, but with the extended cut as a third disc, that was done exclusively for Imprint.

The original United Artists logo is intact on both the 4K and Blu-ray disc of this release.

In your opinion, is the Imprint 4K release the one to get? And Kino a close second? Appreciate your insight.

The exclusive cut of the movie that Imprint does not have subtitles if that is a concern. I di enjoy it and felt comfortable with it being my choice but an extra fifty dollars for that and an extra interview might not work for everyone.

I haven't checked out the Kino 4k, but I'm going to assume its the same restoration as the Studio Canal/Imprint. The extended cut is really only worth it if you're a hardcore fan of the film as I am (I grew up watching this over and over again). The extra bits don't make or break the whole narrative of the film.
