To be fair, the theatrical cut of Apocalypse Now is still available fairly easily. Ideally, there should be a "budget" version available with both 4K UHD discs, but you can get, for example, this four-disc German release:

Which has the two 4K UHD discs for the three versions of the film and the two Blu-rays of extras (apparently region free) while dropping the redundant Blu-rays.

In fact, the German release looks to have TrueHD 5.1 for the theatrical and Redux versions, but I don't know if that's just a downmix from the Atmos remix that's on the US, UK and Australian editions.

Dunno about the provenance of the DTHD 5.1, but if you play the theatrical cut in that set it actually has a restored original audio mix in DD 5.1 too. How/why ze Germans were blessed with the OG mix while the UK/US UHD got boned is a mystery. These discs were also authored for StudioCanal/ArtHaus by Lionsgate so it's not a case of a local distributor making ker-azy decisions on their own.

Are there English subs on this release?

For the cuts of the film, I believe so, yes. Though they don't seem to be English SDH, if you need them.

I got the 6 disc 4K set from the US with all 3 cuts in 4K, for $9.99! The contents of this set look really nice, but it's a heck of a lot of money to pay for extras. I can see it ending up in clearance sales though, and there might be a price I'd bite at eventually.

I got the 6 disc in 2019 for about $22 and its on there. Not in 4K but that price would have to come way down for me to repurchase the extra.

I loved this documentary and own her book on the making of AN too.

I don't know if this is worth it but it's rather amazing to see Francis lose his shit. And it was awesome to hear him backtrack on how shitty his wife made him look when he was losing said shit on that Lionsgate set.

Seeing the doc in 4K is great but... no Francis Ford commentary on the documentary and no video of him trying to say the doc doesn't represent him right and blah blah. I'm sorry, Francis. But you went batshit crazy and acted like a *****, your wife filmed it and you still allowed it to be released. I loved how annoyed he was w/ how he was portrayed.

It looks like a one-disc standard edition will be out on 11 August 2025. Right now the Collector's Edition is still set for 28 July:

Quote:
EXTRAS

The Making of Hearts of Darkness

Eleanor Coppola: Art is All Around Us

Eleanor & Francis Coppola Audio Commentary
Unfortunately, it looks to drop the second Blu-ray of extras from the Collector's Edition.

I think I'll just wait for Lionsgate Limited to release their own version, they'll likely restore the missing bonus features.

Have the shorts on the bonus disc been made available anywhere else (in region B) in HD before?

That’s such an odd choice when the Blu-ray version itself keeps the second disc

Just received mine and the front edges are flattened due to being sent in an envelope (not even a box) with no padding whatsoever. £50 Limited Edition and its not worth a sheet of bubble wrap and a cardboard box. Getting a replacement.

Just received replacement. Exactly same situation, sent in an envelope with no padding whatsoever, so damaged. Will be sending this one back aswell. I'm so sick of this.

Who are you buying from. Given the quoted damage, I assume Amazon.

My copy from HMV arrived in perfect condition. Their packaging for digipaks and avoiding crush damage is miles better than Amazon.

Yeah, Amazon, but thats for a few reasons.
1) Returns are a lot easier
2) I can get parcels sent to the Amazon locker, which is much less hassle
3) I keep having problems with HMV. A few times they've sent me unsealed damaged and filthy items, and I've had to reorder items I had pre-ordered with HMV with Amazon, such as The Good the Bad and the Ugly 4K as my card expired between the initial release date and the new release date and HMV said they cant change my payment info as I had other items on the order that I've already received. Also I had a ton of issues trying to use a discount code that they had to keep sending me new ones. Large orders seem to cause issues when taking payment as like 80% of the time the transaction fails for me.

In case anyone was wondering, this has completely been restored (and reconstructed) and looks great. Noticeably better color and contrast than the version packaged with Apocalypse Now. Similar to the new "That's Entertainment" blu-ray release, all newly restored 2:35 scenes from Apocalypse Now have been inserted into the movie, instead of the 4:3 pillarbox look of the original.
