The more I look at this steelbook, the less I hate it. Despite the ending that makes no sense, I like this movie a lot. Never got around to picking up the SS version, so I might grab this.

Now, let’s get The Hills Have Eyes remake in 4K…

I missed out on the Second Sight limited set release and now goes for £50+... I'm tempted to pick up the German 4K Mediabook as it includes an English track, but I presume the extras will be in French with German subs only.

You probably know, but just in case, the second sight has everything on the 4k disc, so unless you need the Blu you’re only missing the art cards and mini book.

Holy shyte I just looked back at the art. Why is that guy using a hand-held rotary buffer on a smoldering glob of lava that's chock-full of tiny people?

I really still don't understand how this is a thing. Massive spoilers:

[Show spoiler]It's clear for 80% of the movie, we're getting Marie's twisted perspective of the story as at the beginning, they were setting up to record it. The reveal of Marie is the director toying with the audience with an edit of going from her perspective to what's actually happening from Alex's eyes. I will admit the first couple of times I watched it I just brushed it off as silly writing because EVERYTHING must have a twist but there are subtle clues placed throughout that supports this. I will admit though I still don't get the one scene of self pleasure with a decapitated head. THAT really doesn't make sense but the ending itself does.

There are plenty of explanations out there as to why the “twist” doesn’t work.
The
[Show spoiler]severed head scene is the biggest problem…if the man is a manifestation of Marie’s twisted perspective/delusion, how is he in town when Marie and Alex haven’t even arrived yet? Also, she would have to be in two places at the same time to pull off some of the other stuff that happens.

Like I said, I enjoy the movie. I just think the twist is unnecessary and not needed at all. It would have been better if
[Show spoiler]the man was the killer all along.

The following is a random quote, but one that resonates pretty well with this movie..

“I want to echo the sentiment that an unpredictable twist does not a good twist make. An unpredictable twist is incredibly easy to write. All you need for an unpredictable twist is a lack of competent foreshadowing, or, in this movie’s case, a non-sequiter that doesn’t logically follow what was previously established.”

I don't disagree with this. I actually found
[Show spoiler]the twist disappointing, and not just for the obvious lack of coherent, logical continuity. I love slashers, and a creepy killer/stalker would have been way more disturbing than the old over-used "crazy victim-chick actually did it all along" routine. Having an established killer with defined characteristics, rather than making the film all about the victim/killer twist also would've opened this film up to a sequel or even a franchise, and introduced a welcome new face of evil.

Agreed. This was a twist for twist's sake, and immediately took me out of the film when I realized the holes created by it.

The visuals are good -- it's a brutal, well-filmed movie. But the twist -- doesn't work.

I personally loved the
[Show spoiler]twist
and didn't see it coming. Upon rewatching though, you can see the seeds. It does create some plot holes but they can be explained by unreliable narrator or different perspectives. My biggest gripe with the
[Show spoiler]twist
was continuing the show the
[Show spoiler]split personality killer when we already know it's Marie. I get showing the split personality but to keep showing it instead of Marie with the saw tells me that we are seeing the story from Marie's perspective. The beginning of the movie with her in the hospital gives credence to that we are watching the entire movie from her perspective.

Yes, it has both French 7.1 and English 5.1

People have stated the LionsGate French 7.1 is better than the SS 5.1, but I have not personally compared them. Also, the LG has the English dub which the SS does not.

The twist is an unforgivable insult to the intelligence of the audience and you can't cherry pick what does and doesn't support the ending. It's either carefully constructed or it's a shaggy dog. Yes, absolutely it's an "unreliable narrator" story that allows some leeway, but that doesn't explain away set pieces that make no sense. Nothing the director has done since points to a trailblazer at work here.

The scene with the
[Show spoiler]head by a decapitated head
that everyone goes on about not making sense does, IMO.

[Show spoiler]The decapitated head looks like Alexia.
