It's funny how, with the exceptions of Windows and Office, everything Microsoft has ever done has failed to succeed well... Most has failed to ever turn a profit.

Some day, some one will realize how bad a company Microsoft is. Really... It's almost unfathomable, but someone really needs to compute out how much slower our evolution technologically has occurred due to Microsoft's terrible products. I'd say we've lost at least 5-10years of technological advancement due to them.

Proteus,
I think there is a major sea change coming for MS. They remind me a lot of IBM in the eighty's - very arrogant and not willing to change. With the rise of data and application centric computing rather than the base it is installed on (Windows), they will be facing a really hard road. They are already taking a beating online from Google. IBM even has embraced open technologies. I think MS is going to need to change their business model if they don't want to slowly wither away.

Right. Remember all the predictions about how the Zune was going to crush the iPod sales?

Plus, let's not forget that Windows isn't really that innovative. I'm not familiar with the specifics of the court case, but I believe it was heavily influenced by Apple's point and click OS

I also remember that the current president of the US vetoed a court decision that would have seriously hurt Microsoft ages ago...

Trouble is, we haven't had a viable alternative to Windows for the longest time. Thankfully, we do now...

...and next month, I'm getting an iMac.

trade in those players to gamestop or EB Games while you can still get a decent credit.

I went to gamestop two days ago and the kid working said that MS announced a bluray addon already. He said it will be out end of april. I never heard anything and I work at BBY, so I actually doubt it was announced and he doesnt know what he's talking about.

Default Microsoft officially stops making HD DVD players

quote
"Microsoft, which previously said it would consider supporting Blu-ray technology should consumers want it, did not say if it would make Blu-Ray players."
"NEW YORK, Feb 25 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp will stop making video players based on the HD DVD standard for its Xbox 360 game system, a move that comes days after Toshiba Corp pulled the plug on the high definition movie technology."

This is the first time Microsoft has made a officially statement. Hopefully they will offer a BLU-RAY option now.

No, the official Microsoft anouncement was this morning

Which led my local TV station to add another layer on the HD DVD death paintjob, and their technical reviewer to add "Blu Ray won, I called it a along time aggo!".

It can only help mass adoption of Blu so I'm all for it. Watch Microsoft come out with an "Xbox 360 Ultimate Elite edition" with an internal Blu ray drive now.
