lol it pretty much does 100% right on, some people would rather sit back and take shots at everyone else trying to show off how intellectually superior they are, putting others down trying to make themselves feel better about their small lives; If every movie ever made was an amazing movie like there will be blood would that movie be any more special if there were 100,000,000 others just as good? Maybe avp2 makes some alien super fans dreams come true, or lake placid 2(TV movie lol) makes some gator nut happy just say good for you and move on. you hit the nail right on the head Steverhcp

He just won the oscar for TWBB. Just thought I'd share.

Also, you can go into all the labels of pretentiousness in the world, it's not going to make me suddenly love crappy movies that arean't made well, but I guess bashing cheap thrills makes me look pretentious.

It would have been a travesty if he didn't win this award. Very happy that justice was served this evening.

Way to go Daniel. I'm glad the academy got it right this time, since they robbed him of the Oscar in 2002.

I'm not so sure I agree with the overacting thing, but I have only seen Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood, those being two of the greatest performances I've ever seen (the only others I would consider better would be Pacino in The Godfather movies or Dog Day Afternoon).

Heh Heh...Yeah, it's a hard choice to pick a favorite Pacino performance, I think you gotta put Scent Of A Woman in the mix, and honestly it's a toned down Pacino but, a beautiful film that never gets mentioned is Carlito's Way.

I find it hilarious someone would accuse DD-L of overacting if they see his whole body of work but if youre talking about TWBB, almost the entire film is brooding, the big outbursts are the church and the finale and I think theyre justified, theres a million amazing minimalist actions he performs like a true master in-between the extreme external stuff. When he's by the surf and he realizes to himself his "brother" is an imposter is a good example.

Scent of a Woman and Carlito's Way are 2 of my favorite movies! Pacino is my favorite actor as you can probably tell.

I'm also a fan of Pacino, a big fan actually. The Godfather part I & II will forever be immortal, that's a given. I remember the first time that I saw 'Scent of a Woman' vividly, and came away from it thinking how phenomenal that movie was, and what an extremely sterling performance that Al Pacino delivered. What can you say about Scarface as well, a classic in my book. I know that many people felt the portrayal was politically incorrect, by painting Cubans in a negative light, but Pacino's flamboyant performance in the film is legendary, like it or not.

I also liked him a great deal in ...'And Justice for All' and 'Serpico'.

I agree with you completely, but you really should give a spoiler warning.

I didn't know the Academy handed out nominations and Oscars for over-acting?

I thought DDL deserved the oscar. Mainly because I thought other than DDL's performance, There Will Be Blood was not that great of a movie. Most of it did not entertain me at all! The scenes with DDL and the priest were the best! DDL pretty much carried this film. Otherwise it would've been a complete borefest for me.

He is one of the most overrated actors in my opinion. His overacting in There Will Be Blood just made the film even duller.

well, not to take away from the discussion anymore i feel the need to defend myself. I dont think im doing the exact same thing. As i have said, i have no problem with people think X movie is better than Y movie or actors or the such....my problem is lack of an open mind, so if by "not practicing what i preach" you mean i should disregard the substance and foundation of my point "to each his own", it would be counterproductive in this case. My problem isnt that the OP feels the way he does, its only the way he expressed it in a condescending arrogant way, thats all.

On topic, DDL clearly deserved this award, his performance was so tremendous it was a bit anticlimatic due to the distance he put between himself and the others, imo. Cant wait to get TWWB on blu, thats for damn sure. Oh, an dill take gangs of new york also
