Honestly, other than No Country for Old men, I agree with this greater-than list.

The first Transformers is throw-away entertainment but still a fun romp. Great workout for ones home theater.

Bourne's sound design is some of the best of the century, so no. VFX? That deserved to win over Golden Compass. They awarded that one instead because it got better reviews.

AFAIK, the VFX Oscars are only voted for by effects artists or people in the effects industry, so they clearly saw something extra special there that the rest of us didn't. Or New Line did a really good job of wining & dining them.

No-one expected 1917 to get the Oscar for effects either, but the 'invisible effects' of that film evidently impressed the industry pros more than Endgame, The Lion King (which I thought was a lock) of The Last Jedi.

I haven't seen The Golden Compass since it was first released, but most of the Transformers effects do still look pretty good today.
