Yeah.. the PS3 doesn't play SACDs over optical, only HDMI. Sorry but you'll need to upgrade. I really love Dark Side of the Moon with multi-channel. Sounds AMAZING!

60GB model.

Good Luck.

Any suggestions for other SACDs that are must haves?

You can't get Direct DSD from analog outputs. Trust me!

ONLY THE 40GB PS3 DOES NOT HAVE SACD PLAYBACK CAPABILITY. The other models, including the 20GB, does.

This stuff is old anyway, I wonder why you're using it?
Because it sounds better than CDs. It's like vinyl without the hiss and pop.

To play DTS Audio CD's on PS3:

SETTINGS

MUSIC SETTING

Audio CD Output Frequency: 44/1/88.2/176.4 kHZ

SOUND SETTINGS

Audio Output Settings

select (HDMI or Digital Out(Optical) ) which ever one you have.

Manual

Make sure DTS is Checked

Un-Check in this order

Uncheck Linear PCM 2 Ch. 176.4 Khz
Uncheck Linear PCM 2 Ch. 88.2 Khz

Save & Exit

Note: the DTS Audo CD's do not like 88.2 Khz / 176.4 Khz, you will get static

When I play SACD I put it back to 88.2 and 176.4 kHZ over HDMI

Please Note The PS3 40G can Play DTS audio CD but not SACD

You should check out the Sting and Police DTS audio CD's. They have great surrounds etc.

I'm guessing he has a 40GB or it's in the settings.

Yeah, Dark Side of the Moon, Dire Straits -- Brothers in Arms, Jazz at the Pawnshop, Billy Joel's The Stranger, Elton John's Madman Across the Water, NIN - Downward Spiral, and The Who's Tommy ... are all excellent.

And Miles Davis' Kind of Blue -- if you're into that kind of thing.
