Any ideas?

The dreaded "blown Tweeter" I fear....

Ah hah! But I've just discovered that if I watch something with uncompressed audio, I don't have the same problem! I just threw in Yes @ Montreaux and then Across the Universe. Even above reference level, NO distortion!

Maybe these speakers are soooo good, they're revealing the limitations of DVD!

I've had a similar experience with compressed audio.... I noticed some distortion and arifacts, and actually had to test the encode on another set of speakers and listen very carefully to detect the same imperfections. Damn yous mp3s!

I would expect that with MP3s... but my biggest source of frustration is actually the newest release of The Sound of Music (40th Anniv Ed)... if anyone gets a chance, throw that in and see if you get the same problem -- noticeable (esp dialogue) distortion throughout the film... Most of my other DVDs sound fine.. that's just an example of one that.... well... doesn't.

THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN HEARING! It's been kind of driving me nuts. I thought that the tweeters had a problem, or just weren't burned in enough or something. Everytime I listen to my ipod, or while watching TV, I hear a crackle or popping in the tweeters. This is AWESOME news. I'm so glad that the speakers are fine, and I'm not crazy!

Just got my A5-350 in today... man is it big!

I ran it through its paces... boy does it sound good. It fills the room very nicely, but with a nice and smooth response. When the music gets boomy though, it has no problem doing the same.

I also managed to put it in protect mode using the ginormous bass boom in the song "Shock" by Fear Factory- but not until my whole apartment was shaking and my ears were about to bleed.

Very pleased with this sub.
