I didn't get to watch the whole thing but scanned some scenes on my PS3 last night. The dark scenes looked fantastic but I felt there was too much film grain in a lot of the more well lit scenes, at least I think it was film grain and not noise.

It's a grainy film, but it looks natural. I think the BD is spectacular. I'd rather see the natural film grain presented than some smoothed out Amir special.

I just bought the PS3 and The Descent, wanted to make sure I'm seeing what I'm supposed to see. I have a 106" projection screen so I'm hoping HD looks far far better than 480p DVD.

I finally found a copy of The Descent and it's paused about 3/4 of the way through right now. It has frozen 4 times in key moments which really killed the mood which has pissed me off since my PS3 has the most recent firmware update and has played my other 11 BD movies flawlessly. It pissed me off enough to pause it and come type this. The disc isn't scratched at all. I'll probably take it back tomorrow.

This movie has the best looking dark lit scenes I have ever seen in a movie.
Chapter 12..The Blood Pool...is the best looking scenes ever in a dark lit movie.

I had never seen this one before...and I am not a horror fan in particular....but its a decent movie....and suprisingly enough...has an 84% at Rotten Tomatoes which is unheard of for a horror movie.

I have to admit that I bought this one to see what Lions Gate could do with 50gb's to work with....and for the 7.1 PCM audio....even though I only use 6.1 in my set up.

My new reference clip sound and picture quality for those that don't mind a lot of blood....is chapter 12.
For those that do mind the Blood...its Pearl Harbors attack scenes...and for those that bring their kids....The Wild.
Yep...the darker lit scenes were the best. When the movie first began and it was all bright and pale in contrast to the meat of the movie.

HD will blow 480P away.

I just purchased a panasonic bd30 with 2.0 firmware installed by default and The Descent will not play. I takes about 2 minutes to read and then says "Disc is incompatible." I upgraded to 2.2, with no luck.

I'm really upset about this considering these panasonics supposedly had no problem with this disc. As a point of interest, I'm currently connected via 1080i component connection to my TV. Could this make a difference?

I have an HDMI cable on order. I pray...

I dont see how your connections rather its hdmi, component etc, would make a disk play or not play, it sounds like firmware or the hardware device to me, possibly the disk another person on this forum said he had problems with it freezing and he was taking it back I think

Just a comment, I think some of the dark scenes have way to much grain(noise) that it is very distracting

Film grain is a natural part of using film.

I bought it used. It seems doubtful that there was something wrong with the disc. 4 of the 6 blurays I currently own were used and all purchased from the same place.

It makes sense for it to be the disc, since it has been stated that panasonic players never had a problem with the movie. The disc appears to be in fine shape. It is driving me crazy.

Descent is one of my favorite horror films of my lifetime. I'll be super pissed if I can never watch it on bluray, especially after such glowing reviews about the quality and my overwhelming disappointment with the DVD.

It played seamlessly on my LG BD390. Great film too! It was a double dip for me from DVD to BD. It did have much grain in dark scenes, but it didn't bother me.

You really don't belong in a forum like this then.

Lionsgate reworked the colours for the Blu-ray to make it brighter, thats why there is really bad grain in some scenes. The 'original' version is darker and none of the grain is visible.
