Is it too early and/or cynical to suggest that I'll believe it when I see it?

Very good news. And it'll probably happen before I get a new HDMI receiver! Which is sweet

What does this "deinterlacing" do?
It would only matter on 1080i/60 encoded content. That could have inter-field motion or it could be 1080p/30 as 1080i/60. Managing the conversion to 1080p is de-interlacing.

That would be nice for the people who have TVs that do inadequate 1080i deinterlacing internally (of which there are many many).

Would be nice if it were bitstream rather than PCM, so I don't have to purchase a new receiver.

why would you have to do that? if your receiver can decode true hd and dts ma it can handle pcm.

bitstreaming is when the receiver decodes it. for the ps3 everything is done internal. so then its sent pcm

Unless I'm doing something wrong, it doesn't. I get true HD as 5.1, but not 7.1. It can't decode dts-ma either.

My reciever is an older Onkyo TX-DS575. I have to send stuff bitstream from the PS3 to get DD or True HD in 5.1

You're not getting TrueHD, you're getting the Dolby Digital core.

the only way to get true hd and dts ma is through hdmi or 5.1/7.1 analog out which the ps3 doesnt have. if your using optical then all you can do is dd and dts 5.1. not all true hd tracks are in 7.1 by the way.

Yep, knew about the core, but isn't the core at 5.1 anyway? And 1.5mps?

Yes to internal decoding... the PS3 CAN NEVER BITSTREAM DTS HD MA audio signals. In order to bitstream DTS HD MA audio, there is a certain piece of hardware that is required, which is NOT in the PS3. But, the PS3 can take the DTS HD MA signal and isolate the 5.1 track out of it.
