Finally watched this tonight. Mathew Mcconaughey was soo awesome in this! I wish he would take more roles like this instead of all those romantic comedies.

the review on this site from 2007 mentions bowman's commentary track, but no other listing or review mentions it. was the reviewer referring to the "conversations with rob bowman" feature? thanks for any info.

Agreed!!! In fact, he is the most impressive character in the film. Chris was good, but Matt owned it.

I never liked this movie much. Plus, I find it hard to believe that there is only one male dragon in the world, with the rest all being females.

Harder than believing that there are dragons in the world? It's called suspension of disbelief.

Do you think we'll see a 4k remaster of Reign of Fire soon? There's a bit of noise and slight haloing in the current any only blu-ray release from 2007. Looks great but could look even better I'm sure.

Best Buy has this for $5.99 and I've almost pulled the plug more than once but tepid reviews have kept me from it.

Is this one of those "maligned, misunderstood because of the time it was made" movies that go on to earn cult status? The thought of Matty McC and Bale teaming up to battle fire-breathing dragons seems like a can't-miss-premise.

But is this a can't-miss at that price?

Definitely worth $5.99! It will definitely not be forgotten, the dragon effects are quite good, they used the Jurassic Park methods in that they never showed the dragons in close ups and they actually had a few real dragon set pieces for the close up/human interactions.
I'm definitely nit-picking the transfer as it looks great already I just know that a 4K remaster would still make some improvements. I'm watching on a 104" 2.40 aspect ratio screen which can be pretty unforgiving if the transfer is not the best.
Definitely take the plunge! Let us know if you liked it!

I remember finding this one in the $7.99 bin at Best Buy. It's not that great of a film, but the premise is interesting with the CGI and sound design being rather convincing.

Funnily enough, this movie would probably be a much bigger hit if it was made now rather than back in 2002. Christian Bale and Matthew Mcconaughey are bigger stars (so is Gerard Butler), and dragons seem to be everywhere in pop culture.

I've always kind of liked this movie, I think the problem is that the posters and trailers were selling a different, more global-scaled epic than the claustrophobic and atmospheric drama that was actually made. I've been meaning to get the BD for a while, if it has been deleted then I will pick it up when I can.

Why? There's nothing wrong with the LPCM 5.1 track other than than the fact it's 16-bit rather than 24.

Don't let the fact that there is no DTS-HD MA track on this stop you from buying this, there's currently an uncompressed audio track. It sounds amazing. Go now! Buy it!

Anyone know if this will be released with new packaging and extras? I only have the DVD but looks like the bluray is pretty good. Otherwise I'll just pick this version up.

Funny I should read this thread cause this title has made it to the top 5 of my Blu-ray re-watch list. Haven't seen this in ages, I do remember loving the movie when I had it on DVD but it seems I had forgotten about the Blu-ray completely up until recently.
