Also, anyone see the post in the Insiders thread asking what MS and Toshiba need to do to call it quits on the political side? Not a BD person to be sure...

I saw that. Wow. Just Wow. It's amazing what is going on over there. What really going to be interesting is how this is spun by certain people when they get back from CES.

On a somewhat unrelated note (well, it was in a Universal thread), here's what a chip manufacturer rep had to say about Chinese Blu-ray players in response to a Microsoft rep:

I'll save you the time. A few companies in BDA want to grow the pie size as quickly as possible.
The plot thickens?

It's funny what happens when people start to think for themselves, rather than be herded by the shepherd! I'm sure there will be lots of scolding going on when the boss returns... "Bad sheep! Bad sheep! Everything's O.K. daddy's here now"

Honestly, I couldn't be more pleased! I love my HD DVD and it's definitely clear they're positioning themselves for domination. The way I see it is the BDA is nervous (and rightly so!) that they've lost this war. The BDA knows the studios are watching the attach rate. I find it ironic that the more PS3s they release the more they dilute thier attach rate... Since they had nothing substantive to mention at their press conferences, they listed off titles.
I honestly have gotten to the point where delusional stupidity like that also earns contempt.

All I know is I almost my head chewed off last nite in there by the zealots and had 2 of my threads in the BD forum removed and warned of being suspended by the mods. No sympathy for most from me...
Some of them were downright nasty.

What's interesting is to see some of them turning on each other now.

Now that IS funny. I hear you on the thinking for yourself comment. I think I've said it before, but the average age over there in the HD section must be about what, 19-25 or so. Thier complete lack of knowledge of how companies make decisions has been quite apparent to many of us for a while now.

One of my favorite people to laugh at is Plazman. He's so off the wall I literally spat my coffee out laughing one late-morning.

Hey, I am only 19, granted I have a bit more business sense than most of that lot, monopolies are efficient, good for customer adoption, etc. I would prefer if you didn't lump me in with them.

I still believe that is Scott Aruti. You should remember him Deane. I feel sympathy for some but not most. The people who bought into HD-DVD spread lies, turned a once decent HT board into a place that allowed itself to be defined by corporate politics, while censoring opposing opinions. I will name names. Mark Rubin. When not closing threads, he was threatening and suspending long time members who contributed with valuable information.

Amir. Nothing but a corporate drone. I defended M$ in the past but other than supporting their Windows products, I will hesitantly buy from them again.

AVS stinks, and those that turned it into the cesspool it is now can swim in their own filth.

I just cannot believe how amazing CES has turned out. Its been so friggin awesome. TSD and the rest looking like FOOLS, people who are HD fans not following like sheep and opening their eyes to the true format for the next 10+ years, and just a overall "We told ya so" no matter where you turn. If i was at CES, i'd gather up paidgeek, panton-man and talkstr8 and take them out to dinner and then some MonteChristo habanas to celebrate this amazing event that has happened!

It looks like tsd2005 hasn't posted since yesterday. Either he's silent, or he got smacked down by the mods for outright lying about his info and his insider credentials. It's happened before, and I believe the board owners are now asking for proof from employers for insiders.

Yeah. The first thing tsd2005 posts in response to the TL51 announcement, is that it will be out by mid-year, and his contacts will be giving him the release dates (presumably Disney) soon.

Clearly zero knowledge. Just a spin to deflect the total disaster of that that day with yet another "Disney next week" hope infusion. And then Amir takes the legs out by commenting within hours that it couldn't even be in the spec until late 2007. And then a slide from CES confirms it.

I was referring to a AaronSCH, who had a huge HD-VD logo in his sig which seems to be gone.

Ha ha - this really gave me a good laugh this morning.

I think what he really means is that he's very embarrassed that the exodus of Fox, Lionsgate and Disney from the Blu-ray camp to be neutral supporters that he's been touting for the last several months didn't happen.

The only thing that interests me in the lack of announcements from Universal, is the reaction of those that support HD-DVD. Call them Fan-Boys or whatever you like, but realise they are the consumers of that product. If they are as upset as it seems, then that is the true blow to HD-DVD.

Personally I just want this 'War' to finish ASAP, its not good for consumers and I remember being happy when Toshiba and Sony were in talks before the standards were released. Unfortunately the talks bore no fruit, and a single standard didnt happen... we (the consumers) are the ones that have to pay.

The PS2 helped DVD sales in a big way (especially in Japan), and it seems the PS3 has done wonders for Blu-Ray. If anyone was/is of the opinion that the PS3 would not have an effect on BD sales then I'm not sure what planet they are from. I am a gamer/AV enthusiast and I'm sure I'm not the only one, those two 'hobbies' pretty much go hand in hand for the most part.

There's a Michael Reuben who is an administrator over at Home Theater Forum who just closed a Blu-Ray thread. I wonder if that's the same person closing Blu-ray threads at AVS.

Michael and Mark? I doubt it, but they may as well be the same person at that rate. *shrugs*

This Universal standing down is the biggest news out of CES. There's no exclusive incentive whatsoever to flush any more money down the toilet on HD-DVD. Any hardware manufacterer looking to make money can't miss this obvious kiss of death, which is why I'm confident that we'll never see anything past a few more Toshiba clunkers, at most, the LG dual, and that's it.

There's no money to be made with HD-DVD. That's the bottom line.
