TNT has done a decent job with some films. I remember the Lord of the Rings films didn't look too bad. Not BD, but any means, but definitely better than standard.

the hardest thing to explain to someone who's new to HD and blu-ray, etc, is to explain the black bars and why your screen isn't filled up and why you don't want it to be with lots of programs/movies...aspect ratio, anamorphic, etc, even makes my head hurt ![]() |

I think they had Jurassic Park on TNT HD before didn't they, or maybe another cable channel like TBS? And I remember turning it on and thinking "this is HD?" I think it was just all stretched out, didn't look very good. And this was my favorite movie as a kid, saw it in the theater 5 times, so I was pretty bummed.

Jurassic Park series were all shot in 1.78:1 which is close to 16:9.
Maybe Spielberg could give this film a scrub over and remove a lot of the EFX gaffes and maybe mix it in 7.1 for a BD release. fuad |

For some reason most people think that 16:9 = 1.85:1, but it doesn't, although it might appear that way on TVs in overscan mode which trims off the edges of the picture. A 16:9 TV showing the full picture actually has very slight letterboxing on the top and bottom for 1:85 images. 16/9 = 1.78, so 16:9 is equivalent to 1:78:1. You can check the math yourself. |
