I just looked at my disk last night and the bottom was all jacked up so im taking it back to gamestop tomorrow

I have a launch 60G with a new 320G hard drive. The game freezes at different parts but audio runs till end of intro sequence usually. If skipped it will most likely stay frozen on the back of the car.

I forget the name of the mission but right at 20% done and when you get into the middle part of the city up until then not one freeze even without logging out of the PSN

Outside chance: Did you replace the hard drive before getting GTA? Might be something to do with that. You could try popping your original 60GB drive in and testing to see if it works.

Actually I thought it might help so I upgraded the hard drive after the freezing issue started. so it did not work with either hard drive. Thanks for the idea though.

Yup just in the middle where the case holds it... I got mine at Wal-mart though.

I looked at my disk a little and found it to be like blotches and lines only to find with a microfiber towel it removed everything and it was back to working like b4 , my cod4 had it aswell

only none of my blu-rays had it

im confused

I never posted a THANK YOU for whoever started this thread. I did the PSN disconnect thing and my game has been working fine since then.

I was having the issue where it would freeze on the loading screen. After I deleted the INSTALL data (I didn't delete my game data, F*CK that option) it would load, but it would freeze no further than 10 minutes into game play.

I can vouch for this too! It's just in game multiplayer that needs to stop freezing... still lots of bugs in that... I don't even try anymore.

yes it will - I sign off psn everytime b4 loading and then just sign on when multiplayer asks.

Well, it takes a few variables out of the equation, at least.

- You've replaced the disc
- You've replaced the hard drive
- You've signed out of PSN

Do you know someone else with a PS3 who would be willing to let you test GTA4 on their system for about 30 minutes?

Thanks OP this helped alot! For some strange reason I thought it had something to do with PSN. This is not hte first game with this problem lol and I was about 15 hours into the game until it finally froze for the first time. after signing out it hasn't frozen once.

Seriously, though, at this point I think your next move is to escalate the issue with Sony. If you've unplugged your network cable, replaced the hard drive, replaced the game disc, and it's still not running right on your machine when it's working fine for millions of other users, then there's either something wrong with your hardware or firmware.

when I contacted Sony, the answer I got was to send the machine in and since warranty is expired it would cost me $145.00. kind of funny I have had no other problems with all my other 11 games.

I would rather wait and see if a patch comes out. If the patch does not fix the issue I will send it in. Would rather not be without my PS3 though

I was one of the users who's game stopped freezing after logging out of PSN. It seems that this issue is fixed now as other users that had the same issue and myself are able to play without freeze-ups while logged in. If logging out fixed your freezing issue I would recommend trying it logged in next time to see if yours works now as well.
