The logical assumption (emphasis on Assume) is that this was a first payment, which would also fall in line with the reported delays of Dreamworks who were trying to have Toshiba cough up the dough when they killed their own format...

And while I enjoy Blu Ray, it wasn't a mature of a product as HD DVD and Sony has said that it doesn't care that we all have to re-buy equipment to reach profile 2.0. Features like that were already available in HD DVD.
My Gen 1 player had better HD features and potential than the last player shipped by Toshiba. Better picture and better sound - better theater experience. I was willing to wait for flash, widgets and gimmicks that impress the masses and the novice.

Welcome to blu-ray.com.

I LOVE pre-recorded high def on disc (I personally hate HD on cable) but most people I know LOVE DVD and LOVE HD movies on cable.

HD DVD may be dead, but Blu-ray still has an uphill battle for mass consumer adoption.
We aren't even at the general adoption point, which can't occur until there is real full studio support. Isn't it a bit soon to be predicting problems with mass adoption?

I seem to recall the same negativism at the same point of DVD.

I heard that RCA was paying Disney $300 Million to switch all their titles to SelectaVision format.

I do. If this is true - It could convince people to never buy a Toshiba product again (cough-me-cough)
Though, even if it isnt true, i would never buy a toshiba product.

It's Kris, what do you expect. He has always had an irrational hatred of BD.

Anything but, though you continue to say so.

I just don't drone on blindless just because I like something.

I know a lot of people that won't buy anything by Toshiba because they sold the milling specs for submarine propellers to the Russians during the cold war. I can't even BEGIN to tell you the repercussions from that!!

I don't know, isn't it a bit too soon to be predicting:

DVD is going to be on its way out in a few years, not as a disc format but for players, and people will buy their new releases on Blu and still enjoy their catalog stuff. 10 years down the line it'll be a Blu world.
But I guess that doesn't count since it is a 100% Blu mantra.

I guess you might have to get rid of that PS3, because it has a cell processor in it.

Providing a reasoned inflection point (blu-ray players dominating shelves) is hardly a mantra. Sounds more like a recognition of previous technology patterns driven by mfgs and producers to make things happen.

If your friends LOVE HD cable it's hard to believe they wouldn't LOVE Blu-ray as well. And since they LOVE DVD we know physical media is important to them and it's something HD cable doesn't give them .. but Blu-ray does. Nothing but good news for HD media adoption amongst your friends really. Interesting you choose to position their dots in the opposite way ..

.. or is that just your mantra?

And they will never get that chance.

They're still trying, though. I just laugh. I wish I could see them a year from now with their horde of clearance HD DVD movies and 5 backup players sitting in a closet not been used in months. They'd never admit it, and I certainly don't need confirmation to get joy out of the situation.

The previous technology that everyone here is so quick to compare BD to didn't have the same playing field BD has. VHS was hardly a contender given the vast differences between DVD and VHS, and on-demand and downloads weren't even an option.

I would love nothing more than to have Blu-ray at the same level as DVD is now a few years from now. But I'm not going to just outright believe it is a sure thing. Despite what others here say about me, we all want the same thing. I just don't subscribe to the blind faith that it is a sure thing now that HD DVD is gone or the childish poking at "red ants" as if they were any worse than the zealots so often on display here.
