Some new news. Who do you think the notable Hollywood star is?

US, May 6, 2010 - A recent report claimed that Marvel was gearing up to turn a number of their second and third tier characters into modestly-budgeted feature films. Today we have word that one of those rumored projects, Luke Cage, may be closer to becoming a reality.
The Los Angeles Times has heard "there's more talk underway about putting the urban hero into his own film and that a notable Hollywood star is now having (very) preliminary talks with Marvel Studios about the property and its potential."
Last we heard, Tyrese Gibson was in the running to play Luke Cage, a.k.a. Power Man, but that was way back when John Singleton was attached to direct it. Might he be the "notable Hollywood star" the paper is referring to?
Cage's bio reminds us that he has one of the more peculiar origins in the Marvel Universe. Cage earned his steel-hard skin thanks to a stint in prison. In exchange for early parole, he volunteered to undergo biological experiments which subsequently gave him superior strength and impenetrable skin, powers he used to break out of prison and embark on a career as a "hero for hire." In his early days, Cage would solve any problem and take down any bad guy, so long as the price was right (and so long as nobody else showed up with a better offer). In the '80s, he enjoyed a successful partnership with the super-powered martial-arts expert Iron Fist, and more recently became a bedrock member of Tony Stark's new Avengers team.
Gotta wonder if the Luke Cage movie will incorporate any of the current Thunderbolts plot line...

[quote]SciFiWire.com is reporting that Transformer star Tyrese Gibson has been offered the role of Marvel's indesructible Power-Man Luke Cage in a film adaptation directed by John Singleton...
"They're still tweaking the script, and all I will say on that is if that slot eventually opens up, I'll probably be that guy to come in there and bring that man to life and have a little fun," Gibson said.
Gibson said that he'd have to prepare to play the bulked-up hero. "I'll have to do a lot of benchpressing, [because] Luke Cage is a lot to live up to," he said. "But, like I said, I'm not officially signed on yet, but they definitely have me in mind."
