beware of the Hot girls they will kill your wallet fast! But on the up side they have a way of paying you back "The Nice Way!"
sounds like you were paying for sex essentially. why not save yourself some trouble and just get a prostitute?

BTW, a little light for you, I have spent an average of $13.50 per just by watching the hot deals forum. WELL WORTH IT.
Um not sure how you reckon the over $15 is a waste thing. Blu-ray's rarely go for less than 19.99. The only way your average price could be that low was if you partook in a lot of BOGO's. Most of the time with a BOGO the movies suck. So if these are your rationale, I can't see you buying many good movies on blu-ray. Paying $20 or $22.95 or whatever most blu's cost is defnitely not too much. Unless you're poor then you probably shouldn't be watching blu-ray anyway.

i'm in the same boat my man. we're buying a larger home with more rooms etc etc, so i have blocked amazon from my computers to avoid temptation. i too am glad i got my set up completed aout 8 months ago otherwise i'd be left pining for bigger better everything. lets hope all goes well. so the days of "turn down the tv the baby is sleeping" will be over since the baby's room will be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy over there.

She is still open to me buying a new projector, and completing the "Theater" in our home... so at least I'll have a nice place to watch the films I get from Netflix. I guess my wife doesn't see the need for me to actually OWN the movies..... argghhhh she just doesn't get it..... Wait until Netflix ships us "There Will Be Blood" for the 4th time

EDIT:

I guess it's good that I upgraded my audio before we bought this house too... otherwise I'd be stuck for awhile!

Feel free to delete if too personal..... but Here is our new abode.... as of June 21st..... I didn't get any pictures of the bathrooms, Bedrooms, etc... but the "BLUE" room (ironically) will become the home theater.... it's the only room in the house with Carpeting..... The back yards is a MESS.... we need to paint INSIDE AND OUT.... this house is gonna consume all of my spare time and money, but again... well worth it. So here it is..... 100 year old houses are great if you can find one in good shape, and with the wood-work in this one, we thought we found a winner!!!!

sorry for the window into my personal life... more than likely I'll pull the pictures down in a week or two. The house has TWO Central AIR UNITS, and TWO FORCED HEAT FURNACES..... we hope to cut back on the utilities by only heating/cooling the new addition during the Winter...... and we're not big on A/C so we will use it sparingly during the summer.

My lovely wife and kick-ass son in front of the house.... yeah.... Blue, Pink, and Cream.... Victorian style..... It's growing on me to be honest.....

FRONT HOUSE.jpg

Stairs going down.... the colors throughout the house (this blue in particular) ALL has to go.... those door-chimes are RIDICULOUSLY big though eh???

stairs.jpg

The Attic.... this is my pride and joy.... o.k. so the color sucks... my wife said I could paint it a dark color more suitable for a home-theater..... Not pictured..... This attic has it's own heater system, and Air system to keep the temperature stable.... there is also a room for storage (movies) off of it, and it has a Full Bathroom up here (they said it was a master-suite at one point, but who in their right mind would want their room on the 3rd floor!!!) I need to take care of the ugly carpet, but that is all in due time.

Theater time!!!!.jpg

The Addition.... yep... they painted it Purple (my wife says Plum...I say PURPLE) the room is 20x18, but I didn't get a good picture of it... it has a room, a closet, and a huge bathroom off of it... so it's an "in-laws" quarters.....

ADDITION.jpg

Front door is to the right.... another Stained glass window in the entry way.... more nice woodwork

MORE... sorry.

O.K. Pocket style (or french? not sure I'm right with my lingo) going from the formal dining room to the addition.
built in china cabinets..jpg

From the Back Porch... looking over at the backyard (which is going to be yet one more huge project!!!!)

yuck.jpg

This is from the back yard, facing the back of the house..... the thing on the right, is the addition... the porch, going forward, is the house...... the addition is 6 years old. You can tell there are handicap ramps etc... that need to be removed.... but no big deal there.
me with Big O.jpg

That Dark Mysterious character holding the kid is Me
I'LL EDIT IN DESCRIPTIONS/PLANS SOON..... but I've had too much coffee... so I need to go read the paper if you get my drift

Way to go, victorians are awesome. We're going to get one someday, when the boomers start going into nursing homes and are forced to downsize at a heavy financial loss. (They might get to bleed out social security, but they'll have to 'pay' one way or another )

Seriously, that place will clean up nice--the details are gorgeous, especially the stained glass. We had the chance to get a home like that, but passed on it due to the work it needed. Other than cosmetic, it needed a lot of upgrades to the 'systems' like electric, heat, and water. Even at 4200 square feet (not including the 2 story carriage house with full basement) we decided that it would probably break us in the long run, and with 2 kids and at the time one on the way it would have been TOO much work for right now.

Ah well, your find is my envy Don't sweat the Blu-Rays, even in a struggling housing market the house will see a greater return in a month than your blu's will see for centuries.

I'm not saying I don't do it. But I am old and mature enough to admit that it's a vice and really a waste of money. I have a decent movie collection and I would say that a good 70% of those movies collect dust on my shelf. I might have watched them a time or two. However looking back, I'm almost ashamed of the amount of money I've thrown away on movies over the years. I've thought "how many vacations could I have taken with the money I've spent on movies?" "What kind of home improvements could I have made with that money." Of course now I look at it in terms of "how many gallons of gas could I buy with what I've spent on movies."

With blu ray I have absolutely sworn that I would mainly rent and only purchase movies that I truly love. I of course will own Lord of the Rings when it comes out and Star Wars and Indiana Jones. The truly memorable iconic movies that defined my generation I will own. Everything else will be like you said, Netflix rentals.
ok, now that's kinda a personal opinion. I look at the people on here saying that buying movies is a waste of money and that buying houses (even just a bigger house) is a an investment. If you're satisfied in the house you live in buying a bigger house is worthless (in my opinion of course) and wasteful. Also collecting movies is a hobby, how many of you spend money on other hobbies??? skiing, snowboarding, boating, a stamp collection, classic cars etc.... How much money do you "waste" there. How many of you eat out a few times a week even at something like Subway? I cook everything I eat from scratch (and eat damn well because of it) and I save a good $100 + a month just on food for my wife and I. Eating out at all is pretty worthless IMO and guess what it's just a matter of what is a priority. I understand that if you have multiple hobbies/priorities you have to cut back on some things but I never get trend to bash on the collectors when there something "more worthwile" to that person. to us collectors we sacrifice money or time in other hobbies to watch/collect movies. Is that bad??? no of course not, it's just a different set of priorities. It would be bad if we were going into the poor house or dipping into savings for these hobbies but it's just fine for someone who enjoys it as a hobby.

I think we're getting more house than we need....... I think I have SEVERAL hobbies, blu-ray being just one of them, and I agree with Wormraper completely..... Buying Movies isn't "Stupid" it's a hobby......

A house is an investment because it will increase in value. Blu-Rays do not, hence they are not investments.

I wouldn't call buying blu-rays a waste of money (or any hobby that brings enjoyment, really) but there is certainly wiser places to put your money in the long term.

Look at it this way: If you buy a house for 130k today, and in 5 years its up to 150k, you now have 20k you can spend on blu-rays. However, if buying blu-rays takes precedence over buying that house (or you can't afford it because of the blu's) in 5 years those blu's will not be worth crap.

Consider how many people here are dumping the DVD collections they 'invested in' for 1/10th of what they paid for them. Do you really think there won't be a better media than Blu-Ray within 5-10 years?

Hence why, from a purely financial standpoint, putting money into a collection is a waste compared to putting that same money into a house.

But I think most people who have a particular hobby know it's a hobby, and treat it as such--only spending what money is left over from all their other expenses on it. Although, with the average consumer credit debt each person has, I think that more people rack up their cards on hobbies they can't really afford, but I digress.

that's perfectly understandable and I agree, other hobbies or needs can dig in I just was ranting against this thread that it seemed to turn into "buying movies is a waste" mentality.

my point was not about buying a house but the mentality of "lets a get a bigger house" when we don't need a bigger house etc... which is what drove the housing economy into what it is today with all the foreclosures. My father has been in the housing and mortgage market for years and has always said that buying a house is NOT a safe investment. It's been a false investment created by the large influx of baby boomers. It's not a bad investment but the idea that you're guaranteed to gain value on your house that is greater than the inflation rate is not in any way guaranteed and wasn't really common till the baby boomer era where that bubble is starting to burst.

Looks like a nice house sucks you can't by as many Blu Rays though. As Daniel Hillard said " I've got to do, what I've got to do". At least you still get to go ahead with you home theater.
