The Omen Collection has truly terrible packaging. I'm not one to complain about packaging, I don't mind attempts to be unique - but I DO mind when packaging fails its #1 task: to protect the discs. This packaging is a mess. A flimsy cardboard box (not thick digipack cardboard, thin slipcover cardboard) containing a flimsy cardboard disc holder, with FOAM NUBS for the discs to stay on. I'd actually rank this worse than the Battlestar Galactica HD DVD set since at least that had a fairly sturdy plastic outer shell. My Omen Collection arrived nice and crushed. And of course each disc has scratches of some form. I mean, I love Blu-ray's protective coating, but I certainly don't enjoy putting it to the test.
I will definitely be sending Fox a letter about this. Last edited by neo_reloaded; 10-06-2008 at 09:26 PM. |

i wouldnt be surprised if FOX wasn't up to their old tricks and used old masters for this Omen series a la Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
screencaps are up http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev...dvd_review.htm Last edited by eChopper; 10-07-2008 at 06:19 AM. |

I did not know that. Fox has been very good about Blu-ray packaging so far but this is obviously a low point for them. I expect Warner to pull something like this but not Fox or Disney. I think I might just buy the first Omen on its own now and wait until Fox unbundles the sequels.

The Omen is one of my favourite films of all time..not just a fav horror but one of my all time favourites of any genre. The sequels werent too shabby either..This is a no brainer buy for me..i hope the pic quality is done justice by fox as they can be hit n miss with their catalogue titles. Thank god in the u.k were not getting the crappy 2006 remake with the boxset! i objsected initaially to paying £10 more for something i don't even want..but luckily we ain't getting it..too bad our american cousins are lumbered with it ..lol

Thanks for the pic. I'm really wishing I had gone with the collection instead of just The Omen. I ordered it earlier today and just got the shipping notice so it's too late to change it now. Maybe I'll pick up the collection soon though and just give/sell the duplicates to friends.

I haven't received mine yet but I am already somewhat disappointed. I would have preferred individual keep cases inside a slip cover like the "Ray Harryhausen Collection" or a multi disc keep case similar to the "Die Hard" collection. Fortunately, I got this with the infamous 3 for 2 deal through Amazon and the set ended up costing around $50. If the discs end up being released individually, I should be able to recoup most if not all of my investment.

I am extremely disappointed with the U.S. version of this release. The box set is sized for DVD and is composed of cheap, flimsy cardboard. The discs are barely secured by foam spindles and two discs were loose in the case when it was delivered. Thankfully, the discs didn't have any scratches. I am hoping the UK version is region free because I have no use for the remake and I believe the UK version will be housed in a keep case. If not, I will wait for individual releases. I just put this set up for auction on Ebay today. I got it cheap through the Amazon 3 for 2 so I should make a couple of bucks on it.
Fox really botched this one. Last edited by AaronSCH; 10-11-2008 at 04:11 AM. |

They will eventually. For now they will milk the consumer for as much money as possible.

The packaging is awful yes but it arrived here intact so all is fine now. I don't plan to be tossing my Blu-ray cases around or anything so it really doesn't matter much to me after it got here.
I have only watched part of the original movie so far but I think it looks pretty good and a little better than I expected. Hopefully i'll get to watch more over this weekend but it is Thanksgiving weekend here so I may not get to it. |
