Posted this in another post but I do love to speculate on E3. I made some revisions based on some new stuff I have read.

Well, heres what I think is going to happen:

1. Sony will tout the sucess of MGS4 and compair and contrast the massive sales difference year over year.

2. Sony will officially announce God of War 3, but will have a short non-gameplay trailer, late Spring release.

3. Square will not have any news on Final Fantasy XIII

4. Sony will show case both Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. Killzone 2 release window (Mid Winter 09) confirmed and flagged as the next big thing. THough I still expect Resistance 2 to take the spotlight given it's a big title for Fall.

5. New SKU announced, 40 or 120GB HDD (big gap because I can't get a good feel for their position on the storage requirements) will have new smaller chips and will still lack backwards compatibility with PS2 titles.

6. Sony will make zero mention of improving classic PSone titles that are available on the PSN.

[I think this stems from Sony's current market disadvantage from a 3rd party perspective, though for the record that doesn't make sense either. I can't figure out what the problem is.]

7. No new PSP, but slim PSP will have new colors

[too early to change the PSP and with the slim selling like free food in Japan there is no reason to change]

8. Sony shows off White Knight but announces no other RPG's to remedy the lack of them PS3 and makes no mention of it. Due to that they don't believe there is an issue.

9. Sony will mention it's new agreements with 3rd parties to mandate trophy support, in game soundtracks. In addition to this Sony will smooth over the lack of 3rd party exclusives with news that several titles this fall will include PS3 exclusive content. (Good example of proof of this Bionic Commando Rearmed, BioShock and I also expect some other big titles in there as well)

10. Thankfully no stupid motion/break apart controller, but Sony will discuss a push using the PSN for casual gamers. With titles like Little Big Planet making a big showing. (I fully expect to see this game touted in many non-gaming magazines)

11. Sony will show off Naughty Dog's next title

12. Sony will announce the acquisition of Ready at Dawn and show off their new title (possibly Heavenly Sword 2)

13. Home's new features shown, Late September date announced for the start of the Open Beta.

14. Sony Shows InFamous, tons of info and footage (due to it's progress)

15. No price cut. (this is almost 100% true given M$'s recent announcement)

16. Namco will finally show Tekken 6 and at some point someone will either confirm or let slip that Eternal Sonata is getting a Western PS3 release. I expect a US release in October and hopefully a PAL/UK release by December [For Eternal Sonata] Tekken released early Spring 09.

I also would think this would deter them from doing business together but it does not seem to be the case, for now.

I find that to be a wonderfully pathetic number. If that were true I still question why [reguardless of money] would want/except low sales on their home turf. especially since JRPG's do so much better in Japan

Same point I was going to make, though it seems that Sega is very cozy with Sony this time around. They have been since Scott Steinburg started making comments about how he preferred the Sony Brand then all of a sudden he jumped ship to work for Sony and it has been nothing but Sega exclusives since. Again I have to wonder whats going on there, as last generation Sega seemed more Xbox friendly.

That would be interesting news, but I really did not expect Wii to get very much of anything from Square this time around as all of their titles [even if bad games] have sold poorly on Wii including their Wii -ware title. Still I don't really worry about Infinite Undiscovery as it looks to be a B-list title at best, and Last Remnant does not look that hot either. So those are not a real loss, but Star Ocean 4 is and a 9 month exclusivity deal would make for some angry Japanese fans. I don't think M$ has Star Ocean 4 tied down that much, though 6 months seems likely before we hear news of a PS3 enhanced port.

As I said inanother thread the Enix end of Square's business has no loyalty to their fan base. I think this could cause them a BIG problem down the line as Japanese RPG fans will end up disliking them or ignoring their releases [handhelds aside of course] until a PS3 version is announced. Still I would love to know the ammount M$ paid for Star Ocean as I doubt it's enough to cover the losses Square-Enix will face when the game flops.

you know what i want to see, even if it is a total rip off of nintendo.

Sony Smash Bros. Brawl.

Put all the Sony characters (snake, ratchet, kratos, jak and daxter, nathan drake, crash bandicoot, etc.) in a brawl type game

I would be very happy if that wish came true. Everyone seems so caught up on JRPG's (which aren't true RPG's to begin with), that it would be nice if the PS3 got some more real RPG's beyond Oblivion (and soon Fallout 3). I'm not really interested in how JRPG's would help out Sony in Japan as I'm not a big fan of games filled with characters where you can't tell the men from the women (and sometimes with the men being prettier than the female characters) coupled with poor translations.

As for my wish, I'd like to see reps from Sony, TiVo, and Amazon get on stage to together and announce a partnership. First that Amazon Unbox and the Amazon mp3 are coming to the PS3 and PSP and that Unbox will now be offering HD content (starting obviously with content from Sony). Then of course that TiVo is coming to the PS3 via an add-on box and that recordings can be shared between the PS3 and TiVo units (just like current TiVo's can share recordings) WITHOUT buying the add-on box. In a similar vein, PS3 owners will be able to schedule recordings for their current TiVo boxes via the PS3 and that it will be transparent to the user whether a recording is on the PS3 or a different TiVo box. And as long I'm wishing, maybe reps for Hulu, Joost and YouTube can show up announcing that their services will also be available via PS3 making it the ultimate media device. And just to top it off, they'll state the firmware update required for this increased functionality will be available that evening and the external DVR unit will be available the following week.

I really don't get Microsoft's paying for timed exclusives, especially the S-E titles.

The Japanese are very patient people. If they know that a title will be released in the future for PS3 then there is pretty much zero chance that they will rush out to buy a 360 now. True exclusivity is the only thing that works at all. Blue Dragon actually pushed the 360 up to a modicum of respectability for a week or two.

I'm honestly not even sure what Microsoft is trying to accomplish anymore, at least when it comes to the Japanese audience.

*EDIT* To the original topic at hand, what I want to see is RPG news. Any kind of RPG news, I really don't care right now.

I wouldn't mind some PS3 Eyetoy support.

This thing has been sitting on top of my t.v. with no new games for MONTHS!

A few new games would be nice.

Blitz and Max: Lovin' the exchange, bros; It's most intrigueing. Covers most of what I'd like to see.

Max, you mentioned ridiculous figures for the timed exclusivity from Squeenix for Last Rem and Star Ocean: As an insider, do you mean to imply that Star Ocean will indeed by PS3 bound as I've theorized. I hope so.

About the MS goal in Japan: I heard that was their goal when they launched, and they said it was to happen by the summer following. 2 years later...not there yet.

Only other thing I'd like to see that hasn't been mentioned is for a Katamari game to make it on PS3, as was freudian slipped by Namco awhile back.

Microsoft doesn't understand Japanese culture. They try to apply their American values and culture to the Japanese market and it fails everytime.

They think that the "Me Wants it Now" attitued that is very a much part of the American way of life applies to the entire world. They think that by buying up timed exclusvies that Japanese will act like Americans and say, "Oh we must go out and buy an Xbox 360 because this title will not come out on PS3 for another year," because in America that strategy works, but in Japan it doesn't.

It just shows how out of touch they really are with the market.

And Americans take no offense to this, I am a proud American myself, but this is the mentality of our culture. Other cultures will think hmmmmmm.....PS3 will have exclusive titles like Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, LittleBigPlanet, God of War 3, Killzone 2, Socom, Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 etc. while only 1 of those titles is out right now PS3 has the better lineup in the future, I think I will go with PS3. Many Americans (not all) walk into a store and say, what has the best lineup RIGHT NOW. They don't care that all the Xbox 360 has coming out in the next year is a Gears 1.5, a hack of Banjoo Kazooie, Halo Wars (if this was an RTS by any other name, it would have had little to no press right now), Too Human (reports are coming in that the game is not as good as many thought it would be) and Alan Wake. What they care about is that right now Bioshock is on the 360 and Ill have to wait 3 months to play it on PS3. Oh and Halo 3. Something that I really don't like about my culture is this mentality we have. Little to no vision at all.

I remember my econ teacher telling me how Japanese companies used to only release earnings every few years. In America we have to have them released 4 times a year, he said that if it was feasible we would have a system in which every day a company told us how much money they made for the day and how it was all broken down, because of our "Now Mentality".

to be honest thats why I think the PS3 is doing so much better in the UK, while we arnt nearly as patient as the Japanese, we are alot more patient that the US, just compare US ank UK bus stops (when I visited the US I was amazed at how arogant and impatient the americans where at bus stops)

Well, to be fair on the other end of the spectrum is the Wii, which has zero titles of note announced for the future, yet still sells out everywhere, Japan included.

I'm with you, eyetoy has so many great little games but eyecam has nothing in comparison. I bought it for my kids expecting balloon games, ninja and boxing style games to appear on PSN (the perfect delivery mechanism) and what do we get? Zip. I'd willingly pay a couple of quid for a simple fun game that my 3 year old can play without needing the controller. But no, Sony seems to have forgotten about the eyecam already.

Microsoft has to know they're done in Japan. The Japanese have soundly rejected the 360, and there's no turning back from that one. The Japanese people are not waiting for the right RPG, or the right driving game, because nothing is going to change the fact that it's a big clunky American console that breaks down all of the time.

In traditional Japanese culture your reputation and honor carry you as an individual and as a business. Microsoft and the XBox brand have not earned a positive reputation in Japan. That's already the way it is, and nothing is going to change that perception.

As for E3, I expect Sony to spill some more info on the following, whether it's new footage or descriptions:

HD movie and TV downloads - Not one I particularly want, but since it was officially announced recently, I'd expect to see more details at E3.

PS3 and PSP rah rah - Of course Sony will present a positive spin on hardware and software sales for PS3, PSP, and PS2. I'm sure there will be mention of MGS4's contributions to PS3. Sony and Microsoft will probably find a way to positively spin GTA IV sales toward console sales.

Games - There will be follow up on the upcoming big games, such as Little Big Planet, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2. I want to see mention of fringe games like Heavy Rain. I really want to see new games and IP announced. We need to see glimpses of more 2nd and 3rd generation PS3 games.

RPGs! RPGs! RPGs!

If Sony can't hear that drum beating, then f**k 'em... I'm getting an Xbox Elite.

I'm sick of not being able to play a decent RPG.

The selection of quality (and I emphasis that QUALITY) games on PS3 (and, granted most suck on Xbox too) in the 'now' is extremely bad.

I agree that we, as Americans, are into the 'now'; however, I've been patiently waiting for a couple years now and watching Sony say the _same exact things_ at the last three E3's. They are _still_ talking about the same IP's! LET IT GO, Sony. Please. Get some new ideas and new games/ip's already because all this other stuff is way too old and been talked about, without delivery, way too long.

I'm starting to think everything PS3 is vaporware right now... seriously.

THAT is what I think Sony needs to address at this E3. The simple fact that everything they have said would come true HAS NOT. I'm especially sick of watching Sony get slapped and hit in the face HARD by Microsoft over and over and over and not doing anything about it. Gets really old fast rallying behind a company that can't seem to stand up for itself ever.
