Ahhhhhh! Satisfaction....isn't that what we are all looking for? But as RUR stated when you hear something better - you are on the road to ruin. Sometimes its like what a reporter asked Howard Hughes, "How much money is enough?" Howard replied "One dollar more."

People here need the ability to talk freely about higher priced gear. It's is an investment for sure and one that is done with the advice and help of others. The same way every other thread here asks for opinion on products regardless of price . Should you blindly take that advice of a stranger as gold, "no" but for the most part it does help to talk it out. It gives you a starting point and gives you things to think about before purchasing or when you go and audition that piece of equipment. It is helpful and much needed to have the advice of those who are more experienced or simply to share thoughts and exchange ideas.

If you think high-end gear is not worth it, fine. Are you wrong?..........YES. High performance = high price. Just the way it works. What is Blu-ray anyways??? A high-end DVD!!!......... Some people are audiophiles. Some people are videophiles. Some people simply are just happy watching a movie and don't need or desire a true "home theater". Some people are full of piss and vinegar.

Some people must not know what the definition of upgrading is. A lot of times I see people upgrading to the same level of performance. So that is a bigger waste of money than anything and is pointless.

Anyways........... all I know is I am glad to have the help and opinions of others and hope that more and more high-end lovers come to Blu-ray.com! What's the point of buying Blu-ray if you are not interested in taking it to the next level. That's what Blu-ray is all about........... or we can always go back to DVD.

The better question is "What makes one an 'audiophile' ?" because I myself am not one.... and having $500,000 in gear doesn't make you one either..... An audiophile, to me, is one who not only strives to own the best, but also strives to HEAR the best.... through traveling to variour stores, conventions etc.... researching and reading (yes books) about audio production/reproduction..... basically full-immersion in the art/hobby

I don't think you have to have a big budget to be an "audiophile" but you have to have one to be a happy one

Not High-end, but not cheap entry level either, and yes, more than likely sounds very good. Can it get better....yes. That's what I want us to think about, and mdabb - you said a mouth full when you stated "Some people must not know what the definition of upgrading is. A lot of times I see people upgrading to the same level of performance. So that is a bigger waste of money than anything and is pointless." That one statement speaks volumes. I know that I'm not high-end yet, will I ever get back - maybe, but I will always challenge myself by listening to High-end systems and saying "What did I hear in that performance, or movie that I didn't hear before". It's a fun hobby !

And Hamp this is a quote from an earlier post from you:

I also agree, except I didn't have an Sony Receiver. I had an cheap Panasonic HTiB and then I bought the Onkyo 605 and was going to build around the reciever. I could not believe the difference I heard with changing the receiver, I was more then amazed at the sound. I think my biggest confusion was how well the Panasonic speakers held up and sounded.

I ended up upgrading to the Onkyo 805 and bought some Klipsch speakers. It's all in my Sig. Not the greatest from Klipsch but I love them as if there were the top of the line
.

You have experienced on a particular level what this thread is about . As you are exposed you get more interested. You go higher up the ladder, not because it cost more - but because it makes a difference in the AQ. You were suprised at the Panasonic speakers, but for some reason - you upgraded to Klipsch. If you were to demo something else and it made your material sound tons better, and if you are the movie lover that I think you are - maybe not now, but sooner or later - you will upgrade - to acheive a "higher" experience. When you can no longer distinguish the returns - then you will stop. Selah

Definately the way it sounds--or more to the point, how it is intended to sound. The cost just adds degrees, hence entry-level high end for cheaper components, up to stratospherically priced stuff that few but the most well-heeled can afford.

No way.. Mid range I'd say.. But again, theres no rule book that states what is hi end.. It's very subjective..Too me a hi end speaker system would you 20,000..5.1/7.1 plus receiver, cables etc..

I'm offended by the term.. An audiophile wants the recording as close to live & how the artist original attended as possible.. Meaning, no changes when in the studio, to make it 'sound better'. I spent over 4 grand on audio, & I doubt I will ever be satisfied .. I want what sounds best to my ears..If that means its different then what the artist intended, so be it.. Colored sound isn't a bad word in my book.. I had 'eargasms', but leads me to wanting more..

the studio 100's are nice, I think you will love the NAD AVR, it is not a component that really ever gets mentioned around here. I am using the NAD T175 processor and love it. Which model are you looking at?
