I like the idea of a sequel, but I hate the idea of a remake. There is no way it will be as good as Paul Verhoeven's classic.

Some good will come out of this: They will most likely double-dip and give us a new Blu-ray version of the original (hopefully remastered). I've held off on getting the current version on Blu because of the poor PQ/AQ. I think the 2-disc steelbook is the much better choice of the two.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

MTV confirmed that Aronofsky's RoboCop will be R rated (not 3-D).

MTV has finally confirmed that Darren Aronofsky’s Robocop film will most likely be Rated R. All I can say is Thank God. I can only imagine that Aronofsky’s Robocop won’t be a smooth chrome cyborg, and would likely be grittier than the original. I imagine that all the movie studios, including MGM, will attempt to take a cue from The Dark Knight and allow for a darker and less than traditional take. It would have been a huge mistake to make Aronofsky conform to a PG-13 rating, especially considering the original film was so over the top gory (earning an X rating during its first MPAA submission).

Producer Mike Medavoy also denied reports that the film might be filmed and released in 3D, a rumor that has persisted since MGM’s first mention of the project at Cannes. It has also been confirmed that the film is a “re-imagining” in the same vein as Batman Begins, and “definitely not a sequel”. No story details have been revealed, other than that the movie will deal with the theme of the merger or technology and humanity. Robocop i expected to hit theaters in 2010. Head on over to MTV to read the full interview with Medavoy.

I'm usually against remakes of great sci-fi classics, but I have to say, I would not be that bothered by a new Robocop. If you go back and see the original, it is REAL campy...and not just the parts that are intended to be campy. Even the theme music makes me go, "You got to be kidding me!" Everybody must have been on some serious coke back then- I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR! The sound effects, alone, would "benefit, Oh so much" with a revisit, compared to what was available when they first made the movie. (The RC gun is one of the coolest gun sounds, btw, along with the phased-pulse rifle in Aliens and the mobile-mini-gun in Predator)

It's a great premise and storyline to watch, again, but if you really get down to critically analyzing scene by scene, you'd think a 15 yr old wrote it.

Well, MGM is pretty deep in their finanical troubles at the moment... expect everything to be put on hold for the time being.
