I don't know. I appreciate the extra detail and the clarity of the Japanese blu-rays but I much prefer the colours of the DVD set (going by that comparison of course). The darker look is how I remember the show, especially with regards to faces and uniforms...

That's not me saying that the DVD colours are the "correct" colours (nor am I saying that if the Japanese version suddenly appeared for £30 over here that I wouldn't grab it of course...) but that's how I remembered watching them again and again and again as a kid, that darker hue and rougher film stock look, and so for the time being I'm more than happy with my DVD copy to help me revisit my youth

I was looking around on Best Buy and found an older release that says Thunderbirds Complete Series 6PC Blu-ray

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/thunderb...irds&lp=7&cp=1

Anyone seen this? Probably the UK set?

I'd love to blind buy it and see what it is but me and Best Buy don't see eye to eye and they don't get my money unless its absolutely the best deal/exclusive.

The date matches the release of the UK set but it would be cheaper for you to import it from Anazon.co.uk

I figured that's what it was, just hoping that it would be the Japanese due to cost.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would just put the info here...

http://networkonair.com/shop/2038-su...626708146.html

Limited to 2500 copies and costs £80.00 released October 20th

Definitely something to look into if you like your Gerry Anderson shows.

This looked interesting until...

"Shipping is in addition to the PRE-BUY price. This is a heavy item (nearly 3kg) and courier shipping is priced accordingly - £3.60 UK, £40.00 Non-UK."

Wow.

Wow.
That is standard Network shipping cost for all overseas orders. They insist on using a tracked courier option I guess because too many overseas customers have complained of no shows.

I placed an order with the recent releases to offset the 40£, but they cancelled the rest of them. I've done it before when they've had sales, but the set can't be ordered with anything else. So looks like I won't get this after all. I just can't justify that cost. Bummed

It does say in the T&Cs of the presale that you can not order with anything else. Given they take money upfront I suppose they don't want to part ship or have the remainder of your order waiting a couple of months for this to be released.

Network don't normally do pre-orders I guess to avoid this issue. They probably made an exception in this case to determine what demand there really is for the title and how many items they need ready for release day. It also helps to defer the production cost of an expensive item like this knowing they have the money already.

You could wait until released and do a big order but they say they will increase the price on 13th October, so one week before release from the discounted £80 back to full £100 retail price.

There are a few DVDs of the documentary The Future Was Fantastic on ebay at the moment. I'm not sure if links to ebay are allowed so just go there and search TFWF.

In Germany, Epix Media are working on a blu ray box of UFO based on the Japanese Geneon masters, hopefully they'll fix the problems the Japanese set had. No release date but it's expected by the end of the year.

On another note, I wonder if ITV will release a box set of the original Thunderbirds series and the new Thunderbirds series after Thunderbirds Are Go has aired?

ITV have pretty much given up on releasing catalogue titles so I doubt it plus if its just a rehash of their 16:9 versions they can keep them.

This thread was started to show Thunderbirds has been released on Bluray, though, so they clearly haven't given up.

This thread was started 6 years ago, since then they have reduced the amount of catalogue material they release on BD, if you want ITV shows like Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple and Poirot you have to import from the US/Europe as ITV have no plans on releasing them here.

I'm guessing there's probably a very small demand. The only ITV archive material I could see people buying is Thunderbirds.

Those shows might sell very sell on BD here but sadly we will never know due to their decision to scale back catalogue content due to poor sales of other releases including Thunderbirds.

ITV have as said given up on BD releases in the UK although still happy to license to Network their UK partner for back catalogue releases and overseas companies.

This Supermarionation boxset is coming from Network and not ITV. The episodes of Thunderbirds are original aspect ratio 4:3 and not the cropped 16:9 used on ITV's boxset from many years ago.

You would hope this release is a precursor to more Anderson BDs in the UK although based upon the ITC samplers from some years ago those did not lead to full season releases of those shows.

That's the mistake ITV are making(not including archive stuff in original aspect ratios). If you look at the BBC's archive releases, they have been pretty successful, with the classic series of Doctor Who now released in it's entirety(apart from Underwater Menace episode 2). These are all in the original aspect ratios, proving that this is a important thing that people like archive releases.

Regarding this set - The image shows it's including a 2-disc blu-ray set of "Filmed in Supermarionation" and "This is Supermarionation". It also includes another 2-disc blu-ray set called "HD21" which includes several additional remastered episodes.

Will those two 2-disc sets be available on their own also, or only in this box set? The box set is very expensive for USA customers to ship, and I just can't do it. I'd love to pick up the separate blu-rays though if they will be made available. I hope these aren't just limited to the box set.
