Upgrading is just like using gems in PixelJunk Monsters; select the tower, hit X, and spin the menu until you see the Upgrade option (actually Upgrade is the default action on a tower so you don't have to spin the menu at all). Upgrading towers costs money; quite a bit more money than buying more towers, but some towers get significantly stronger with upgrades. To upgrade any tower above level 2, you have to first research the tech level 3 + level 4 upgrade (100 credits) to unlock those upgrade ranks, and then level 5 requires a separate 200 credit upgrade to unlock for all towers. |

I just full-cleared the first nebula last night (all levels cleared with all enemies destroyed). The second nebula is much more challenging. This is shaping up to be harder than PJM because the attack paths aren't always obvious and you basically have to guess where enemies will travel after each wave. |

Monsters was a cute game and had a good balance, but i'm glad to hear savage moon is more like the raw tower defenses from the RTS mods. my fav was the pokemon tower defense for war3, every tower had a pokemon name and they all servd their own purpose. jigglypuff towers were the ultimate putting the enemies to sleep. ![]() |

Agreed...man I thought PJM was tough but this thing is much harder! So far my impression is it's too hard....I won't even get to experience the full game at this rate.

I've been really addicted to this game. It's like Pixel Junk Monsters on steroids. I really loved PJM, but it pales by comparison. Savage Moon has better graphics, better game play, and more sophisticated strategy.
Most particularly, a failing of PJM is that there were many kinds of towers, but most of them weren't worth building. It was better to ignore most of them completely and stick to the few effective towers. Not so in Savage Moon. The wide array of different towers in this game is actually useful and really makes for more options and variety in how to effectively approach your defense. Even things like the blocking towers are not ignorable. In the early levels, you can get by without them. But in the later levels, they become increasingly important. They affect the dynamic of path selection by the enemies, and despite being themselves simple, they have complex effects on strategy. Usually, if the enemy manages to crack one of your blocking towers, you're doomed because the enemy will now turn around and flood through the crack in your defenses. The game is difficult, and I really like that. It's become harder and harder to find challenging games as 'casual gaming' has become the new industry mantra. However, I would call it the good sort of difficult rather than annoying difficult. After the tutorial levels, don't presume to beat each level the first time you play it as in most games. In fact, expect to lose several times. If you expect to be winning most of the time, you're going to be frustrated by this game. Each level has a different key to victory. And it takes experimentation to figure it out. And experimentation means you're going to get rammed on thorax. So don't sweat having to restart a lot of times. Once you figure out the key to how to build your defense on a particular level, this game does not require you to be ultra fast and precise on the controls and time usage to win. In PJM, there weren't many choices about how to build your defenses and so the direction you needed to go was generally pretty obvious. The game was really centered on perfectly tuning those defenses. In Savage Moon, there are vastly more choices. The challenge is in figuring out an approach that works on a particular level, and not as much in fine tuning it. It doesn't actually need to be tuned that well to survive the level. However, great tuning is still needed if you want to get the trophies by surviving perfectly. It's very well balanced and thought out. And when I'm playing it, I sure do feel like I'm living in Starship Troopers. It's very cool. And I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the tower defense genre. |

Keep trying different approaches to your defense.
When you've got a good approach that works well, it's not actually that hard to make your defenses hold. Now, of course, when you play vengeance modes then it's a matter of having a good defense strategy, _and_ how perfectly you can keep it all up... adding more time until you are inevitably crushed. |

Oh s$%t! really?! I had no idea what that level 3 + 4 did. The level I'm on has been kicking my butt. I've played it at least 20 times and can't win. I max out the number of towers I'm able to have and have plenty of credits. My stategy seemed to be sound but I simply couldn't win. Being able to upgrade my towers more would definitely be what I was lacking.

Wow, I know this thread is pretty old, but I just got the game this weekend. I came across the demo on PSN (don't know if it was new or not...) and I got hooked. I didn't pick this up when it was released since I wasn't that interested but this game is so addicting!
It's pretty tough too.... I got all three awards on the 4 levels of the first moon, but I have only beaten the 1st level of the second moon. The second level there keeps kicking my butt...I'll get there I suppose, I have to now that I'm addicted ![]() |

...it's the big ones that come in a BIG wave fairly early on that I can't block and have them go a certain direction. I really thought I was going to make it the last time I played...but nope.
I've tried using the command skills to my advantage, but didn't make THAT much of a difference. |
