Are you going to go with Wall Sconces or recessed lighting? I love sconces for theaters.
Thanks! We were hoping for twins the first time around, so these will be about 1 year and a month apart.

It's been more work than I initially thought. Hauling the sheetrock was pretty fun

I wired the basement for 5 wall sconces, 3 on 1 switch in the rec room area, and 2 on 1 switch which will be on the same wall as the screen. That is on an expensive high quality dimmer. I like a bit of light in the room when I watch movies. Not much, just a bit

As for the general purpose lighting, I installed 16 recessed lights on 7 separate switches (for the entire basement).

In the TV room, the recessed lights are on a 3-way switch, which means that when you enter the basement, you turn on zone 3 (is what I call it)...it lights up the TV area.....walk over to the TV area, load up the movie etc.....turn them off from the couch, and turn on the wall lights (dimmer). The switches are right near where the home theater seats will be.

sounds great! Well thought out, that's for sure....

My wife and I want THREE, so I was hoping for triplets (she didn't think that was so great of an idea ) but now we just have the one, and we are in "Discussions" of future "Upgrades" on the family situation

And you thought Klipsch tweeters were harsh....

...wait until you hear the high frequencies on those little rapscallions!

Good to see everything's progressing, Set...2 months deadline!!

And showroom finished? My room? Never! I still want to do remote-controlled lighting, paint the walls, and optimize my sound arrangements...

triplets would have been fun! For me, I think 2 is all I can handle. A buddy of mine is having his 3rd girl. So he's waaaaaay outnumbered.

Baby's can scream / cry at 120 dB Hearing loss can start around 100 dB....reason enough to get some ear plugs.

I hope to have the floor and trim in for sure, with all the outlets finished, minibar functional, and the bathroom working by Jan/Feb. Can you believe I went to Menards to buy 20 amp white outlets and guess what, they were sold out! Sold out of outlets! crazy.

You've got a real clean setup. Love the look. I won't be able to put in wood floors downstairs but in a few years they'll be upstairs.

Well I managed to get some things done the past few days.

2 doors installed
Set the toilet, no more running up stairs!
Replaced almond outlet with white
Repainted some areas - had to touch up - that took MANY hours
Installed and tested about 15 outlets, about 1/2 done
Connected all the closet lights and smoke detectors

Just a note to those who may nail up their own electrical boxes. The little nubs or tabs on the box do NOT represent the spacing for 1/2" sheet rock. I found that out the hard way. The best way to get a flush box with sheet rock is to take a test piece and use it to determine your depth, then nail up the boxes. Don't rely on the tabs on the side of the blue boxes.

Mine is being fixed with box extensions. Some of them are the right depth, some are not. It's something I learned the hard way.

Edit: I'll be posting pics after this weekends work, not sure if there is enough done just yet

Thanks! It's been quite the year. I started last year, Jan 17th according to my logs. Crazy how long it takes if you do this stuff yourself and part time.

I put in the remaining outlets I had, turns out I'm 3 short and need 7 more covers.

I also connected my inwall speaker wire for my 7.1 system to the faceplate with the speaker connections. Getting exciting!

More pics will be uploaded after this weekend. Should be a big change.

Oh an being an electrical engineer, I love wiring, so I think I went a bit overboard on the outlets. You'll probably get a good chuckle at just how many I have in the basement. I think there are 36

Last night I picked up the remote speaker connections and plates, put those up. It's starting to look great, can't wait to get all the fixtures and stuff in the wall to plug up any holes.

This weekend:

Hang the pocket doors (frames are up, just need to put the door in)
Set and finish plumb the bathroom sink
Finish plumb the shower / bathtub
Connect 4th bedroom light fixture
Finish up connecting the remaining outlets

Things I need to buy:

Minibar cabinets
Minibar sink
Countertop
Wall sconces ( I need 5)

Well I didn't get the pocket door hung or the shower finished, but got the rest of it complete.

I'll upload pics tonight for sure, just gotta clean up my mess so it'll look better

I spent about 10 hours doing touch up painting.......problem is you'll never be able to tell from the pics, but where the color wall meets the white ceiling is a bear to get exact with textured walls. I spent a full entire day with a few 1" brushes doing touchups to get it look as perfect as I could. The big news is, I got the sink working and secure. so now I just have to get the surround, cut holes, install and connect the shower faucet and the bathroom will be complete.

Paint pads are your friends. The red ones from Lowes with the little wheels on the side allow you to paint precise, straight lines at wall/ceiling interfaces, even on textured walls. If possible, it's best to leave about 1/8" of the wall unpainted (painted in the ceiling color) at the interface. Trust me, I've painted so many rooms/houses over the years, it's all second nature to me. I can't stand walking into someone's house and seeing a sloppy wall/ceiling interface. It's one of the first things my anal painting self notices.

I'm sure yours looks great, though.

Update: I got my shelving built in for my movies...so right now I'm organizing them all, I probably have around 600 DVD's and 100 blu's so it'll take some time.

Also tonight I'll be posting high res pics of my theater construction, not sure if I'll start another thread under the construction forum or not, but it'll show step by step detail from framing, wiring, plumbing, finish work...

Stay tuned!
