I say sell your player and your movies. If this is upsetting you that much, you shouldn't be a pioneer in new technology.

Were is the official news story on this I would think there would be one with a movie this big and if there is not one then this is just FUD so to the OP prove it with hard facts not just "I went to a friends house and it played on his PS3"

Question Help me weed through the 'weeds'

What EXACTLY is the problem? I can only assume from 2 and a half pages of this thread that Iron Man will not play in 1st gen or non-updated players due to...? What is this highly anticipated update supposed to be addressing?

SO GUESS WHAT EVERYONE IT LOOKS LIKE YOU WONT BE PLAYING IRON MAN ON YOUR BLURAY PLAYER!!!!

This really pisses me off and it better not happen when the Dark Knight comes out.
Then stick it to Sony and watch Iron-Man on your HD-A2.

As long as Sony comes out with a firmware update before the release of Iron Man to fix the problem, I'm happy .

So basically, the Sony's are around 200 bucks now so ppl will start buying them... they will rent/buy Ironman and it won't work.

Why would the average joe buy a PS3 when he can get the Sony300 for 200 or less.

We are past early adoption... the masses are not going to be impressed.

I am mad and I don't even have a sony player.

Panny30 seems to work ok for everything.

Will average joe who has never done a firmware update in his life be happy?

Where is the quality control that makes sure movies work on all players?!?!

This is stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is annoying. I don't mind updating my firmware nor am I worried that Sony won't release a firmware upgrade soon. I'm just annoyed that this is happening regularly now because the average consumer is going to be really off-put with this. It'd be one thing if this was happening to older generation players that weren't on the market anymore, but these first generation players are going to be sold in the stores during the holiday season where they hope Blu Ray picks up steadily and yet if the studios can't get it together to where the movies will play on every player, then it really will hurt mass adoption in the long run.

People working on Wall St have no idea if their employers will still be around a year from now. Employees and customers of Alitalia have no idea if the airline will still be able to fly planes a week from now. And you're concerned because one of the 200,000 employees of Sony (or a call center employee) didn't know the answer to a question that no one within ten levels of management above them has ANYTHING to do with. Wow!

Did you think that if you asked about upcoming firmware revisions they would transfer you to some Senior VP of CE product updates in Japan? Of course not. The "techs" you talk to don't even know about firmware updates for BD players AFTER they've been released on the website. Asking about future one's to take care of problems that may or may not exist with a movie not yet out, seems beyond counterproductive. You might as well have called Miss Cleo and asked her to make a guess.

BTW, to mods, why is this thread still open?

this thread is open so people can read about the reality of how annoying it is to not be able to watch a movie because you're player isn't ready for it yet. i think it's ridiculous that any blu-ray player cannot play certain blu-rays. are we going to have blu-ray player spec requirements printed on the blu-ray cases?

Haven't had an unsolved problem with my HTPC either I get updates just like a PS3 (only they are software updates - I haven't had to do a firmware update since day 1).

Never done a firmware update with my HTPC either and have been able to play everything.

Only do the player software update when felt the need too.

I'm going to have to agree with the "CS reps wouldn't know much/anything about an upcoming firmware update, and wait until the title is actually released before worrying" stance.

I'd guess Sony will have an update within a week of the offical release

[QUOTE=badboi;1167517]Well, if they get a PS3, at least this winter they'll use less heating. Was at a friends house over the weekend. He had a PS3 and a plasma in his tv room. After about 10 minutes in there I was sweating my tits off. Went to investigate and both the plasma and the PS3 were throwing out some heat that I don't get with any of my gear (even my Directv HD DVR isn't that bad). Not sure if they are all like that, but no way would I even consider adding a PS3 to my setup if it put out that much heat.

and did you check the power consumption and the fan noise
ps3 is for rich half deaf people who don,t have central heating in their homes

Agreed.

Does it really matter that his player won't be able to play the latest movies. Does it matter that the PS3 kicks a$$? Yer darn tootin' it doesn't matter! Because even if everybody here mentioned that the PS3 was the way to go, chances are the OP would do the honorable thing, like a samurai, and stay with his losing battle right up to the very end - even though a very simple move would bring his entire conflict to a peaceful end!

I, for one, congratulate and salute you!

Excelsior!

I don't get it. The OP was in a panic but hasn't said exactly what the problem is? By the way, OP, where did you get this copy of IM?
