I'm not up on this info. Which edition are you talking about?
Are we talking the special edition by Manga with the 6.1 DTS-ES?

Yes, Rust. The original release only had the original 2ch track.

Avalon was mostly shot and made in Poland, so yes it's the original language track for it. The Japanese track is the dub in this case.

My bad for not being clear ; I know the original was 2 channel.
I just did'nt know there had been "cheap DSP processing to upmix the 2ch track directly".

What I wanted to know was which particular dvd release got the half-ass upmixing.
You said "the re-release" so I figured you meant the special ed. from 2005, but I just
wanted to make sure.

thanks.

As for audio track,

Akira・・・Japanease Dolby Digital discrete5.1ch, Japanease PCM 2ch(Dolby surround matrix 4.0ch encoded), English Dolby Digital discrete5.1ch
This reminds me of the first DVD release of Akira where the hardcore fans wanted better audio and received it with the later DTS version. They are charging $90 for a Blu-ray with inferior surround sound than the ST-DVD I already own? They can keep their disc and I'll keep my $90. If they are charging that much for these movies they need to learn more about what people who are hypothetically willing to spend that much demand for their money. This isn't the Joe Bloggs mass market anymore.

Yeah.. Japan DVD Pricing method just don't work in the rest of the world. Anime is more and more a niche than it ever was because of that.

Things from Japan have always been pricey but you used to get something for the money.
