My Superbit 5th Element looked really good, but the BD still blew it away.

However, if that was any indication, upscaled DVDs just aren't going to cut it, except in cases where a film or tv show was filmed in SD.

(Scrubs was filmed on 16 mm, so I am hoping for a BR of one of my favorite sitcoms soon )
Comedy Central does not broadcast in HD, so you were watching Scrubs in standard def.

More then likely the internal scaler in your display sucks and the DVD players is better. That is if the non-upscaling model is even a decent one and not some Durabrand model

I used to own the Star Wars original trilogy boxset DVD, but sold it.

I just bought the newly released Trilogy boxset. And wow, did they do a new transfer? This looks brilliant using my upscaling DVD player. Almost as good as a real 1080p HD.

Can't wait for the BD version, must be spectacular.

Hoodwinked! looks really nice upscaled. Also Rise: Blood Hunter looks pretty good. Those were the first two movies I watched upscaled.

Most other stuff is decent but for some reason The Game (Michael Douglas) is really tiny on my DVD player. It doesn't look like it's upscaled because it looks like it would on a regular non-upscaler DVD player. But it is pretty clear... Is it my DVD or what? Anyone else have this movie?

I agree. It looks even better when you use a dvd player with a Silicon Optix Reon processing chip!

Those screenshots are tiny compared to a full 1080p screenshot. The Lord of the Rings DVDs look pretty good when viewed on a small scale like that, but blown up, even though they look ok upscaled, they still look like they need the blu treatment. Watch a DVD on a small screen and be blown away. Watch the same movie on Brain Sturgeon's setup and I'm sure it would look pretty bad, upconverted or not. Take a picture of it and post it small on our site and it looks good again. You see what I mean?
