Exactly! It doesn't take that much imagination to "get it." The way it was done made it one of those RARE plot twists that you don't see coming 30minutes into the movie. A plot twist that actually has the ability to surprise is a rare treat indeed.

many good choices, but you need to add the Saw movies

also if you liked Dawn of the dead then you should see the original Romero films, they are way better

Def. agree about Dawn the original is vastly superior.

With Saw I would stop after the 3rd as they become wastes of time.

I disagree, but he can watch the first and decide if he feels like continuing.

By reading your list, you like the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre films, you think The Unborn looks good, and they are all produced by Michael Bay. You should definatly watch the remake of "The Amityville Horror" with Ryan Reynolds.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl0035JWYC8 , it was produced by Michael Bay as well, It was actually (i thought at least) a pretty good movie. Id like to see it get a Blu-ray release.

Yeah I'll definitely check out the old romero films, they've always intrigued me but i never got around to seein them. As for the Saw series, I actually stopped liking them after the first, and the only reason I liked the first was because it was original. After that, in my opinion, they got weaker and weaker, I didn't even bother seeing the fourth or fifth.

I saw this movie and I thought it was pretty decent. I haven't seen the original, but now that it's out on blu, I'll have to change that

Se7en is one of my favorite movies. It's a really good dark detective movie with a great cast

I thought it was okay on its own terms. But it's more a remake of The Shining than Amityville Horror. Not that the old Amityville movies were all that great in the first place.... (But I still bought the boxset anyway. )

Recommendations:

Night of the Living Dead - Commentary by Romero on Racism
Dawn fo the Dead - Commentary by Romero on Commsumerism
Inside(mentioned before) - Pregnant widow defends herself from insane woman.
Evil Dead Series - Not really scary but great
The Blair Witch Project - This is a great experiment in horror. Some people hate it but I loved it.
The Thing - Great. Nuff said.
Exorcist - Scarier if you are religious.
Three Extremes - The one with Takashi Miike and Chan Won Park. Theres one more director and they did the best story in it called Dumplings

I also think you should watch the old slasher films. A lot of those are really good.

Last House on the Left - I think this is being remade. It's by Wes Craven.

Do not waste time on:

Any Saw film
Any Hostel film
Turistas

These are not horror films. They are gore porn. They are in no way scary or set any mood. They just try to show you disturbing scene with no substance.

Seriously though Martyrs will be the film to watch for.

If you can get into the Asian horror then you are in for a treat. They are a lot slower than other horror films but the payoff is worth it.

it's just a slasher but that flick has always freaked me out.

Well, first of all, yes, they are horror films. They belong to a sub-genre of horror. But regardless, I'll never understand why people lump the Saw series in with movies like Hostel. There's a lot more going on in Saw than just torture. There's a huge interwoven backstory and an interesting villain with complex motivations. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's art or even quality film making that everyone has to enjoy. But they're not just graphic scenes of torture strung together for a cheap shock either. Whatever. Just a pet peeve.

I actually agree. I really avoided seeing Saw for a long time, then some people whose opinions I respect said it was actually pretty good. I watched it, and while I didn't think it was great, it was way better than I expected. There was a cool story to it and some creepy images. Saw 2 I didn't like as much, and therefore I never saw any of the subsequent sequels.

I do kind of agree that Hostel was kind of lame. Just totally gruesome. I heard that Hostel 2 was better, so I watched and totally disagree. Hostel 1 was better IMO. Never seen Touristas, seems like a rip-off of Hostel.

There was only really one brutal scene in each of the Hostels:

[Show spoiler] in part 1, when he has to snip off the Japanese chick's melted eyeball with a pair of scissors, and in Part 2, when the chick cuts off the guy's package.

Is Cabin Fever more of the same? Eli Roth again?
