Could it be? Wall-E is gonna be the first animation to win the Oscar for Best Picture?
No.

Yellow Submarine won the NY Circle of Film Critics Best Picture Prize, wasn't even nominated by the Academy. And Wall-E didn't take any nods for screenplay, which it has to win in order to have any sort of shot.

Not a cop out, my friend. It actually plays out like that every day, in every city on the globe.

If any studio deserves it then it is Pixar. There commitment to quality story telling and animation has been an inspiration to me.

Hopefully it will win or even if it doesn't it will get a nomination.

Surely they'll put it in the animation category as well so that even if it is nominated for best picture and doesn't win it'll be a shoe in for best animated feature anyway.

But then they are breaking the "rules" by allowing
[Show spoiler]someone who has commited suicide to goto heaven. My problems aren't only in the fact that she suddenly realizes everything and it turns out ok but that, according to standard religious doctrines, she should not be able to leave hell because she took her own life. I think it would have been better for him to stay at her side in hell.

It would not surprise me if Wall-E gets an oscar nomination for best picture, although I doubt if it would win. Don't forget that Beauty and the Beast also received an oscar nomination for best picture. And for the record, I really loved Wall-E. I thought it was a remarkable film. Kudos for Disney and Pixar.

I would have hated the movie if he didn't remember at the end. what a waste that would have been.

I mean, you hit that point in the film and basically Wall-E has accomplished the overall goal of the film, waking up the human race and sending them back to earth.

why is it better for him not to remember? what does that gain? just a bummer ending for no real reason? If him remembering or not remembering in and of itself doesn't actually change the story, I no doubt would rather leave with a smile on my face.

What version did you watch? In both the director's cut and the theatrical cut
[Show spoiler]Annie is sent back and is reincarnated, forced to live her life again. In the theatrical cut, Chris chooses to go back to, and the film ends with the two meeting again as children, and Annie gives Chris a sandwhich after he sinks her toy boat. In the director's cut, she is born as a sick child in India, fated to die young -- Chris is fated to meet her, fall in love, only to endure separation after she dies while he lives a long life, waiting to meet her again in heaven.

So they didn't break the rules, you must be thinking of another movie.

You just got to admire what PIXAR as been able to achieve in the 20 years they have been around. It's been one success after the other. Other studious are probably wondering how can they do this? The answer is very simple, good stories. It's incredible that you can feel more emotions from a computer created story from PIXAR then most of the real productions of other studios.
