Default More Aims Toward a Possible Third Movie by 2012.

Hey,

Gillian Anderson hints of a Possible 3rd

Before the release of X Files: I Want to Believe there were talks about the film being part of a trilogy. Do you think we would see a 4th one maybe?

Anything X Files I am cool with.

More on This:

Quote:
X-Files News (can’t believe that’s actually a site) recently nabbed a jewel during their world-spanning watch of all things X-Files: quotes from Gillian Anderson at a Sarajevo film festival that basically allude to the fact that she would be willing to return for a third X-Files movie and (that in fact) there is one currently in the planning stages, with 2012 mentioned as a possible production or release date (details are unclear).

If you’re suddenly thinking to yourself, “Another X-Files flick? WTH???” Then my friend, you are not alone.

Ok, so there’s been some issue regarding the exact quote that came from Anderson’s (lovely) lips, but here are the two translations that X-Files News has managed to obtain from the foreign correspondents who covered the festival:

Translation 1: “The third movie, according to her, is in early stages and should be filmed by 2012!”

Translation 2: “The new XF-movie is, by her knowledge in preparation and should be filmed during 2012.”

So… Two statements that point to the same event (X-Files 3) with very different interpretations of the where/when. Great.

Stateside, we thankfully have Bloody-Disgusting to help sift through the rumors: the horror site backs up our earlier reports that there has in fact been at least talk of doing X-Files 3, ever since the (abysmal) last film, I Want To Believe still managed to take around $70 million at the worldwide box office. Bloody-Disgusting adds that the rumors they’ve heard peg the next film as a possible reboot, which wouldn’t be all that surprising considering Hollywood’s current trend of recycling old concepts into (semi-)new films.

But why bother? We have new shows like Fringe or even Supernatural that have come along and successfully filled the void left by The X-Files - why not focus on developing those series into FRESH feature film franchises? How much evidence of X-Files‘ dwindling popularity and relevance does the studio need to see before they call it quits?

Of course this is all still just RUMOR for now, so if there is even a sliver of truth to it, hopefully everyone involved will read the damn writing on the wall and pull out before they get in too deep.

Enjoy.

Thats awesome. I had no real problem with the last film, so another would suit me just fine.

The second X-Files movie should've been called "The X-Files: I Wanted to Puke" or "The X-Files: I Want My 1 Hour and 44 Minutes of My Life Back". However, should there be a third X-Files movie, they need to bring back Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Reyes (Annabeth Gish), because I would like to know what happened to them after the series finale. I cannot stress this fact enough.

I'm a huge X-files fan and have enjoyed everything they have done so far (TV & movies). I thought the last film continued what I've come to expect from the X-files creators. It was a well crafted, very creepy story with the characters I've grown to love over the years. If they keep making X-files movies I hope they continue to keep a balance of the big epic ones and smaller personal ones (like the last one).

Count me in if they make another.

The last X-Files was wonderful. The great thing about it is the reliance on classicism to tell it's horror story. That was also the problem - in a world of SAW clones and other types of shock horror porn, I want To Believe was like your grandfather's horror film. So thirty-somethings and older dug it, teenagers hated it.

The second X-Files movie was a disgrace to the series. Can't even phantom a third one at this point.

More X-Files is a-okay with me. I loved the last film and thought it superior to the first film as well.

As did most X-files fans, because they flocked to the theaters to make it a smash hit... er... wait.

No, the second film sucked, and drained whatever life the series had left in it out and Pi$$ed it all over the floor without even so much as an apology from Carter at the end for wasting everyone's time.

I'm all for it. I think they should make another every couple years like the original Star Trek franchise.

The last three seasons of the X-files were a disgrace. I Want To Belive was an attempt to repair the damage and bridge to a third film. I enjoyed it immensely.

I would usually offer a worthwhile retort, but it'd mostly be a waste in this case.

I am all for another X-Files movie, as long as they focus on what made it good in the first place. The supernatural.

Jaded I agree with you most of the time depending on what the argument is. However, what I understood from your previous post (and I may be wrong) because of the fan base that X-Files aquired during the shows were being aired, its the only reason a 3rd may well make its way to theaters. If so, then yes that was the driving factor of the success of the 2nd one have accumulated.

If not then could you elaborate your position on this?

X-Files 2 suffered terrible bad luck -- it premiered during the frenzy over The Dark Knight, it was low-scale and character driven and moody and introspective and quiet when America was in the mood for grand opera. I Want To Believe is probably the "quietest" film I've seen in a theater since Contact, and just as I adored Contact, I loved I Want to Believe. Obviously if they do a third film, they're going to go huge and do the final alien invasion the whole series was intimating, and we'll all be glad for it. But in my opinion, after the visual hyperbole and over the top stories of the last seasons, the series needed to get raw and focused on character again, and this is what we saw in IWTB. So there is now a foundation from which to go large, and you couldn't have that without hitting the reset button again, and that's what IWTB was...scraping the poop of the last season off the shoes, telling a small (albeit horrific) story, and resetting the board so that a new grand match can be played.

Seriously, it is rare for me to feel an absolute disconnect with the masses, but this is undoubtedly one of those moments. I really don't know why people had issues with IWTB, other than the fact it was small, quiet, literate, focused, and character driven and slouched towards some sort of intelligence. In other words, it was a film for adults. In retrospect, it should have never tried to compete in the summer marketplace, but I admire and respect the film and I don't think it deserves the harsh comments made here and other places.

Basically only a third of the fans of the series went due to the fact that they heard how much it sucked balls.

Simply put *LOL*

No, they were all going to see Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight and The X-Files couldn't compete.

I disagree.

If they were that big of fans of the X-files, they would have seen both.
