Correct... then you run an HDMI from the receiver to the tv.

This is the model number. Sony HTIS100.CEK If I'm using the PS3 as the decoder does it matter if the receiver does not support TruHD and DTS HD?
I cant use my currant receiver as a pass through, it only supports 1080i video. I could but my TV is 1080p would like to keep it all at 1080p. Any help will be great.

The best option that DVDs have is DTS-ES 6.1. But not all have that. Most just have Dolby Digital 5.1. Use that instead. The numbers are the available speaker channels it uses - 5.1 = 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer. 2.0 is Stereo - just one pair of speakers. And they're basically the same thing as far as opticals go, Detective.

I find it more important than my TV I have a relitivly small TV at 34" and the sound makes it feel real.

Ok I have another question I was going to wait to get surround sound until I buy a new system. But on my blu-ray's all the people always talk so quite even though i have it on like 40 but all of the other sounds are blasting and really loud if I bought the optical cable and use that would it even out the talking and sounds or would it be the same?

Blu audio makes one experience the movie not just listen to it

With the current speaker system you have and setup, seems like u not getting the expectations u want. With the optical cable, you get a digital signal.

Untill you buy that new system with surround, the sound you are now hearing will be the same. Especially if u don't have a receiver for your PS3 yet to decode the signals thru HDMI or Optical cable!!! If you don't have a receiver, I advise you to get one.

Surround Sound will make a huge difference when watching a movie. The surround will give an effect, that makes it the more real. For example, a scene with flying bullets, you will hear and feel that swishing from all directions or an explosion effect after impact. A good Center speaker will give u that dialogue you seek, even from the slightest whisper!!!

Cool Does surround sound make much difference?

In my humble opinion, surround sound is significantly enhanced if you have seven ears. Then you can enjoy the full benefits.

Ok so using the system I have now with an optical cable will make me be able to hear what the people are saying and make all the other sounds less loud or will it just make evrything louder?

So, in the real world, positional sound does affect you at all? When a car pulls up behind you, you don't turn around, realizing where the sound is coming from? When a child cries in the theater, you can't tell if it's the movie or two rows behind you?

...c'mon now. Not the hottest start on a new forum, eh?

with the optical cable the sound will be process as digital signal. you should be able to hear a better and clearer sound, the PS3 will decode the signal.

How many speakers do u have currently hooked up thru the disc changer?

If still not what u looking for, then time to invest in a newer system.

If you're using Optical, you probably don't want the PS3 decoding.

I'd say make sure the PS3 is set to Bitstream, and then use your recievers test tones to make sure each speaker is set at the correct level. To me, it sounds more like your speakers aren't all the same level and the center channel is turned down (or the other channels are turned up) if you're having trouble hearing what people are saying.

Oh well in that case, theoretically yes. Sounds would be more discrete. You'd have an entire channel dedicated to pretty much dialogue.

You should take a look at this site. I had to educate myself last year when I bought my system.
