They're a sturdy remote as well. I've had my Xbox360 version remote for 3 years now. It's been dropped, spilled on, stuffed between couch cushions, etc. It's still alive, I've never had a big problem with it.

I still don't understand why Sony didn't just go ahead and put an IR port in the PS3. It's not like they are expensive or anything. I have seen SOOOO many HT early adopters who refused to get a PS3 JUST because of the lack of IR support. While all of the add-ons work..... they are all a little less than a perfect solution.

You still won't be able to power on or off from what i've read. Not a big deal for me.
???? even though the PS3 doesn't have RF capability, The Harmony one and the Harmony 1000 are both IR remotes(infra-red). There is a $99.00 RF kit that is optional for the 1000 though......

I love my Har. 1000. I discovered a small hidden button on my 1000 that says "Wife"

It is programmed so that when I push it, my wife gets up, walks to refrig, gets a cold beer, opens it, returns to the couch, hands me the beer and never says a word making the price tag well worth it.

I know, i've been holding off for the same reason, but i really had to get one! There's just to many remotes all over my living room...There are other options that will power the PS3 on and off, like the links posted above. I just don't want to drop another $100 right now. It's not like i use my PS3 daily. It won't kill me to use the BT remote to power it on and off when ever i want to use it, i can live with it for the time being. I'll still be getting rid of 3 other remotes and my fiancee will be happy, lol. Plus i won't have to worry about buying anymore equipment and adding another remote to the collection

I'll see how the Blu wave works for now, if not i'll have to get the ps3toothfairy device eventually...

However, as I said, it costs way more. The fully working model is 89.99, and there's a cheaper 64 dollar model that requires that you take out the Blue-tooth chip from your existing Sony PS3 Blu-ray remote and then screw the top on it. I'm buying the latter as I already have the Sony PS3 remote. Might as well save the money.
In addition to the PS3toothfairy, there is another product called IR4PS3. This has all the functions of the PS3 Bluetooth remote since it uses the chip from the remote, including turning the PS3 on and off.

There are two kits. One is a DIY kit where you take the chip out of your own PS3 Bluetooth remote and install it. This is $40. The full completed kit is around $68. I paid $14 for shipping. The guy that makes them is named Ben. He doesn't have a website, but his email is ir4ps3@hotmail.com if you want to order one. Ben sent me a shipping confirmation one business day after ordering, so mine should be here in the next day or so. Check out info about it below. There is a YouTube video that shows the steps for the DIY kit.

Did the price you paid include a power cord? If so I may consider it.

The price does not include the power supply. According to the manual he sent me though, the newer version allows use of powering by a mini-USB cable connected to the the following options:

• Set-Top box
• Cable box
• Dish box
• USB hub
• USB power supply

This is the route I'm going to go. Keep in mind it can't be connected to the PS3 USB since there is no power to the USB port when it's off.

Ah, so I can use the mini-USB that came with the PS3 controller? In that case I may see if my DVR has a working USB outlet on the back.

This product seems to have all of the good reviews of the PS3toothfairy but cheaper. That's a no brainer. Thank you for the heads up.

I had made up my mind to get the 550 at Best Buy for $50, but now J&R has the 720 for $90. Back to the drawing board.

Just to piggyback this post, I just received an e-mail from the distributor. Essentially this does exactly the same thing as the PS3toothfairy but the basic unit is 24 dollars cheaper. Shipping plus the cost of the basic unit is going to run me 53.73, whereas the PS3toothfairy would have totaled out at 74 for the basic unit, not including shipping. I've read the reviews posted by the members over at AVS; this puppy looks like the real deal! Can't wait to get mine!
