When I use the auto set-up with my 3808, it designates my center speaker as large (crossover at 40). I have a Paradigm CC350 and the frequency response is 70 Hz-20 Khz. Wonder how it arrived at that setting? I changed all the speakers to small with the crossovers at 80 so my SuperCube III could manage the lows.

I have Monitor 7's, CC370, & Mini Monitor rears driven by a 3808CI. Audyssey set all mine as large. I also set mine at 80. Heres what Audyssey says:

Why does Audyssey set my speakers to Large (or Small) when I know they are not?
MultEQ does not set the speakers to Large or Small. This is a decision made by each individual AVR manufacturer and each uses a different speaker roll-off frequency to make this decision. Audyssey recommends the decision should be made using 40 Hz as the roll- off frequency. That is to say, if a speaker is found to roll-off below 40 Hz it should be called Large and all other speakers should be called Small.

If your AVR manufacturer sets your speakers to Large then all content below the crossover frequency is lost as it is not redirected to the subwoofer. Audyssey recommends changing the speaker setting to Small manually after the calibration is finished.

Audyssey also set my surounds to small even though the BP8Bs can handle down to 22 Hz. Still need to have the human element present, even with all this sophisticated equipement.

Did you know that if your Denon receiver is not purchased at an authorized Denon dealer you will not be able to obtain the patches or updates. I bought my 3808 on Ebay, there is a $100 update for it that Denon will not let me obtain. Anyways does not mater, love my 3808...Denon rocks.

Not buying from an authorized dealer costs you perks like updates and warranties. What is the update? I purchased mine in Janurary and it doesn't show any available updates.

It's not an update it is a upgrade that costs $100 bucks. This is the link http://www.usa.denon.com/upgrade/. It's only available for the 4308 and the 3808. I own the 3808 and did the upgrade, and it's cool but now my night mode's don't work anymore. The 3808 is a beast and I love it!

The Audyssey Dynamic EQ sounds interesting. Do you notice much of a difference?

Honestly I couldn't tell ya, it's been quite a while since I bought the upgrade. I did notice the volume was noticeably lower when I did the upgrade. I thought my hearing was just getting worse as I have had a lot of loud car stereos in my day. Last night I was messing around with menu options, and just adjusted the volume level for each speaker, and it is much better now!

With those 7002's and the 2500, we need some pictures of your system.

You know what, I was thinking the same thing. I need to dust badly and I think we are gonna get a 58" or 65" panny v10 next month. So I was on the fence about doing before or after pics, or maybe both. I just got around to updating my blu collection last night.

The main benefit of Dynamic EQ and Dynamic volume are being able to watch at lower volumes and still have a full rich sound. I like the feature, but to be honest, when I am listening loud I turn all of the audyssey processing off.

I have tried the audyssey auto setup more times and ways than I care to admit. I know that in some rooms people have great success with it. I think it's a great feature, but I just don't like the sound as much when audyssey is turned on and the volume is close to or at reference. I prefer to use audyssey to set the distances. But I double check the trims with my SPL meter, set my crossovers where I want them, change any large speakers to small, and then I have it turned off, and have used the tone control to get what I think is a much better result for loud volumes.

It's definitely worth experimenting with yourself to see if it's some YOU hear an acceptable difference with.

Not sure if it's worth $100 to play with. I agree with you about the auto-setup. It's good for the basics, then fine tune it yourself.

I work nights and so on the days when I am off I am up much later than the rest of my family. This is where it's a great benefit for me. I can engage the dynamic volume and still have a good movie experience without waking my wife or children.

Question AVR-5308CI will not update

Owner of a 5308CI unit, having problems. It will not do firmware updates any more. It used to months ago but not any more. Have verified all network settings 3x now. Using the wired connection. Able to ping it and open its web page, no problems. When it tries to check for firmware updates, it hangs and goes no where. When I check my firewall, it is trying to establish a connection to private IP address 172.16.51.1 port 2170 so no wonder it goes no where. My network is all 192.168.x.x based so I have no idea where this 172.16.x.x is coming from? I have done a factory reset of settings as per the manual, entered connection info for network once again and still the same. Have removed power from unit too, no difference.

Has anybody else here experienced this? If so, how to fix? I have done pretty much everything I can do on my end to fix but I am getting no where, stuck at the same problem. Suggestions?

Thanks.

Denon has been e-mailed, waiting for a reply. Probably will not hear back until late Monday or Tuesday.

In the meantime, could anybody here sniff out the actual IP address and port number my 5308 should be contacting to check for firmware updates? May be I can do an intercept and redirect it to the proper address, where a new firmware will correct my problem? Thx.
