At this price, I would be surprise if it doesn't have Bluetooth.

We've been itching to spend some quality time with Sony's NWZ-X1000-series player since its granite-sided shell was first revealed just ahead of CES, and now that it's inching closer to release (in the Old Country, at least) we finally have a full spec sheet to parse. On the audio side it'll play MP3, WMA, and AAC at up to 320kbps, and for video there's MPEG-4, H.264, and WMV support, sadly in most cases crippled at 320 x 240 despite that 3-inch OLED screen's 432 x 240 native resolution. That's nearly a quarter of those pixels gone to waste. Other goodies include FM tuning, 802.11g/b WiFi, internet browsing with YouTube support, and 33 hours of battery life when grooving to tunes, 9 hours when watching video, and surely much less when cruising the web. Still no confirmed domestic release date, but it can't be long now.

They replaced it and promised that the issue had been resolved, that it was a known issue. IMHO, the Sony Erickson Walkman
W580i is a piece of junk. Sad, because Sony usually makes such quality products.
That's odd. I've had the W580i for well over a year now, and I've had none of the problems you described at all. My previous Sony Ericsson phone lasted for over 4 years before I decided to upgrade. I loved that phone, so I decided to stick with Sony Ericsson. I haven't been disappointed.

Default Sony OLED Walkman (NWZ-X1050) hands-on

http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/04/s...1050-hands-on/

Quote:
We got a chance to peek Sony's succulent OLED Walkman way back at CES, but we've waited for what seems like forever to hold one in our supple paws without a booth attendant breathing down our neck. The model that arrived today on our doorstep is the 16GB NW-X1050 (or NWZ-X1050), which just launched in Japan last week. There's still no telling when this beauty will hit the US, but we can already guess that it'll cause some serious buzz when it does. We'll just come right out and say it: this is the best looking display on any PMP that we've ever seen. If you'll recall, Cowon's S9 also shipped with an OLED panel, but we've got to give the edge to Sony here. Also of note, we were never fans of the dark granite border in the press shots, but it's downright stunning in person. We're going to be hosting up a video walkthrough of the menus and such just as soon as it uploads (sigh) as well as some more thorough impressions in the coming days. For now, however, feel free to peruse the gallery below.

I walked around HK looking for one all day, finally found one in Mong Kok!

I had a little pplay about with it. The touchscreen is extremely responsive, a little too responsive for my liking, but the iTards will love it. It is amazingly black, I don't what kind of VooDoo magic Sony have used, but the screen is about the best I have ever seen.

Browser is pretty bad, better than the PSP one, but still pretty bad. I hear there are changes coming to that soon, but it isn't great right now.

I used it connected to a computer, the interesting part was the integration with Songbird the iTunes rip-off from the Mozilla Corp. it was fast and efficient and now that Songbird has got an integrated store it is really good. A proper competitor to iTunes+iPod. If Sony have the sense to bundle Songbird with every singe one of these then they will get to a very good start.

I don't know why people are worrying about the price so much.

Amazon pre-orders have it at £249.99 for the 32GB while the iPod Touch 32GB is £268.70.

Looks like a decent price to me, especially if they get away from that shitty netfront browser they have at the moment.

I'll definitely get one of these or a newer model with a bigger screen should Sony decide to release one.

For good measure Play.com have them at £249.99 and £199.99 for the 32GB and 16GB respectively.

hi max - how is browsing music on the player? is there a lag moving between albums when you load on quite a few? also you hinted at a 64gb version of the player coming later in the year a while back.. do you think thats still a possibility? probably be later in the year before i can afford to buy anyway so i dont mind waiting... re the included phones - do they have built in mics to work with the noise cancelling function list the ns70x series had?

cheers,
mick

We wouldn't carve this in stone quite yet, but we'd say that points-to-dollars conversion from Sony's official 'Rewards' site is pretty legitimate. The outfit's highly anticipated OLED Walkman, which we had the pleasure of toying with earlier this week, is now listed in 16GB and 32GB forms at SonyRewards. While no ship date is given, we are told that the smaller of the two will run members 29,995 points, while the larger one demands an extra 10,000. For those who only speak real currency (you know, like Schrute Bucks), that translates to $299.95 and $399.95, respectively. Furthermore, the first official OLED Walkman accessories have popped up, proving that a leather case / kickstand, clear screen protector and a hard plastic shell will be made available. Oh, and Sony -- any moment now would be great for a confirmation.

Sony launching new Walkman music/video player

Heres some updated info, etc

Quote:
MAY 13 | DIGITAL: Sony is launching its first wireless-enabled Walkman model in mid-June, likely angling for a bigger piece of the music/video player market currently dominated by Apple.
The X-series Walkman features a 3-inch OLED touch screen, allowing for video/photo playback and viewing even at a 180-degree angle. Also key to the X-series is its inclusion of software to block ambient noise, which Sony touts as the first time such noise-canceling technology has been added to a video MP3 player.
Two models will be released: the 16GB NWZ-X1051 at $299 and the 32GB NWZ-X1061 at $399. The company’s retail Web site, SonyStyle.com, is accepting pre-orders.
With the wireless capabilities, this Walkman will be able to provide fuller content choices, such as embedded Slacker Radio, with which people can get hundreds of free songs delivered straight to their Walkman after they choose up to three stations.
Although a rival to iPod, the Walkman will play iTunes-bought media when purchased in formats without digital rights management (or non-DRM).
The X-series Walkman also is enhanced with a Web browser, including access to YouTube.
"The new X-series leverages Sony's engineering heritage and integrates the latest advances in OLED and other innovative technologies," said Andrew Sivori, director of the audio products business at Sony Electronics. "We focused on enhancing audio and video playback to develop a device that allows consumers a deeper, more interactive way to enjoy content, as well as discover new content, for a truly unique entertainment experience."
