I agree, that does sound pretty arrogant. However, if you look at it in a metaphor perspective, he is somewhat right. I mean, next gen console so far has no game that can live up to Killzone 2 in term of graphics. If that's not pushing some ground, then what does.

Yes I know game should be more than just graphics, but when some ground are being pushed to the next level, you gotta give credits for that.

Whether that ground is gameplay or graphics.

Just to have an idea of the (lack of) intelligence of the original Gamingtarget article, check out this quote:

Quote:
The PS3's retail price (and the massive R&D budget required to build such a system) is definitely the prime reason for such low sales numbers and lost profits.
Wait.

Given that the PS3 is still being sold for a (small now) loss, wouldn't lowering the retail price of the PS3 and selling massive amounts of it ... cause actually -bigger- losses for Sony instead of profits?

I'll try and find the GAF post where they compare sales properly, but it's not really worth it right now with the quarterlies right around the corner.

Edit: GAF is having server trouble. Stupid NPD day!

I like the fact that we are starting to see these types of unbiased articles attack the PS3 bash fad/campaign that has been occuring on the internet over the last 3 months. I've seen at least 5 of these pop up to put the haters in their proper places.

Guess we shouldn't get you started on the one hand clapping one either, huh?....

Personally if we're going to get all zen-y I prefer this one: (Well, it's Taoist, but you know what I mean)
Thirty Spokes share the wheels hub;
It is the center hole that makes it useful.
Shape clay into a vessel;
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes that make it useful.
Therefore, profit comes from what is there;
Usefulness from what is not there.

So would that mean profit come from the system, but usefulness comes from a lack of the RROD?

I'm just saying that Sony DID bring some of this upon themselves.
It is a lot Sony's fault. They put too much tech into the box. They should have picked Cell or Blu-ray. Having both in the box was suicide as it forced a $599 launch. While the Cell is a brilliant beast, it could probably have waited for another gen while Blu-ray needed something to push it.

Without Cell the PS3 would have been far cheaper to produce, using a standard off the shelf CPU like Xenon would have saved over $300 at launch as they wouldn't have needed expensive XDR RAM to go with it.

I think long term the decision will pay off, but in the present it hurt SCE big time and the PS3 has a real fight on its hands, when it should have won pretty easily.

Of course though, it will pay off in the end, when the PS3 is $199 in years and still playing games that rival the next gen consoles from the competitors, Sony will have had the best and last laugh. When they are comparing other games against what the PS3 will still be able to do and coming up lacking, we will all know that Sony made the right choice. Unfortunately, everybody is looking at the immediate now.

I got a good deal, I paid retail price of $499 at launch, not $599..

Best value ever

It's an editorial?

And part of a series, including today's later article on "Why 360 is a failure"
and Friday the PS3 is a success..

It's op-ed, y'know, it ain't news or reporting, it's a freaking editorial, take it for what it is.

Here is your proof man for your point. This is a partly owned Microsoft site telling people their 360's are still having a lot of problems.

To be fair on that regard. You'll typically find the news sources fairly 'seperate' from any sort of bias in that type of reporting. Much like CNN's coverage of the Boston Not Knowing what a LightBright Is.

Although on that note, my hatred for Boston ticker just overflowed again .

That article is pretty non-descript about WHEN the problems are/were. It doesn't mention anything at all about the different chipsets. The newest chipset.. the Jasper... hasn't been out long enough at all to know if it will still have issues.... although it is said that the testing phase for this chipset has gone VERY well.

Also the part of the article where it says the original XBox released with issues that MS was able to improve over time, is highly suspect. The original XBox was a very reliable console from day one.

Xbox was built like a tank. I dropped it down some stairs once and it still worked!

Try that with any of today's consoles and I can't think of any that would survive, maybe DSPhat...
