Playmakers - ESPN

Great show that was just starting to come into its own, and the NFL leaned on ESPN to take it off the air.

Titus - Funny, funny stuff on that show.

I definitely agree with Firefly and Profit. These were 2 great shows that were well written, well directed and well acted. As for vampire shows, my vote would go to Kindred.

Arrested Development was one of the greatest comedies ever, but I think it was too smart for the common audience. I think it is the type of show that could've aired in England for years.

Playmakers & Raines are good calls.

I'd also go with Smith, with Ray Liotta. Thought they pulled the plug way too soon, I would've liked to have seen it been given more of a chance.

Anyone picking up a pattern here?

FOX!!!

It always drives me crazy that they pick up "edgy" programs, and unceremoniously drop them. FOX has a graveyard of great shows that were killed before their time: Firefly, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, The Tick, Wonderfalls, Brisco County Jr., Titus, Space Above and Beyond, Greg The Bunny, The Ben Stiller Show, and on and on and on. Those are just ones off the top of my head, but if you look back over the last 20 years it's staggering.

I'll see your Profit and Firefly, and raise you an American Gothic and Brimstone.

I loved Arrested Development, but you can't say it was not given a chance. It had 3 seasons at various time slots and never found an audience. While it did end up in a Friday night death slot it was initially in a very good Sunday night slot. I was actually surprised Fox didn't cancel it after the first or second season, since it was always very low in the ratings.
I agree it is interesting that Fox has been the source of many of the shows on the list. They should realize that if they greenlight these quirky shows that they might take a while to gain an audience and will never get a huge audience. I usually don't watch a show when it first starts on Fox because I don't want to get hooked and then see it canceled. If the ratings are good and it looks appealing I'll watch it when it comes out on Blu-ray (or dvd if it's the only option). This is how I'll approach Dollhouse. I would almost guarantee this show does not get more than 10 episodes since Fox already isn't showing faith in it by giving it a horrible Friday night slot, rather than a solid lead in with American Idol or House.

Excellent wording Fatediesel! That's what I was attempting to say, but apparently couldn't find the right words for. Ironic since I write copy for a living.

You are also misinformed.

No, it was the premiere of its syndication/rerun deal with SciFi (i.e. NBC/Universal). The show originally aired on CBS during the troubled 2007-2008 season.

It was one of the only times that I've seriously laughed out loud at Family Guy.

When they came back from being canceled, and the family is on the couch, and it's explained that they were canceled and Lois asks Peter if they are ever going to get another chance to come back on, and Peter goes through a litany of old {awesome} shows that Fox canceled then finally goes "if they get rid of those shows, then maybe we'll have a chance"

I'm going way back for two of these:

Probe
Misfits of Science
Dark Shadows (primetime)
Vanished
New Amsterdam

And people adding "Enterprise", "Titus", and "Arrested Development", please stop. There's a big difference between a show that "never had a chance" and a show that had chance after chance for 3 or more seasons and still couldn't come up with an audience.

Can't believe Brimstone has no dvd release. I want to see it for John Glover!

100% agree with u on Smith! Why didn't they give it a chance?! Thankfully Itunes had the entire series available for download. Great great show!

Also, I would mention 'Knights of Prosperity' This show could have been really funny had they given it more time to develop.

And lastly, I hate to mention it but I think Friday Night Lights is destined to be cancelled after this season. And the fact that this show can't find an audience is beyond belief! This show is about REAL LIFE- much more so than any crap they air on MTV or VH1 or whatever. Teens and Parents alike should be giving this show a chance. I'm serious. Best show I have EVER seen! Period.
