What films did you see in school? What were they?

Well I'm taking Film classes now in college and about two hours ago we watched "Double Indemnity" (1944) Not a bad Film Noir if I do say so.

Not bad. What do you call good? Exactly?

To me Indemnity isn't average. It's well above that.

What are great film noirs in your view?

Semester just started so not much to go on it's sort of a new genre for me. The kids in class thought it was a little drawn out, saying that the second half was better than the first. This is Cinema Studies II starting from Film Noir and ending with "Swept Away" the original. Double Indemnity" is an important film and I respect it fully. It has made me want to look further into Film Noir and add some films to my Netflix Queue! Any suggestions?

I'm not a film student, and never took a film class in my life, but if you're looking for noir movies, I suggest these:

The Maltese Falcon (the Bogart version, which I think was the 3rd time it was made into a movie)

The Third Man

Touch of Evil (well-known for a particular camera shot in the movie, but also just a good movie)

Sunset Blvd. (I'd say it's borderline-noir, though you may have already seen it in your class since it seems like a standard)

I too am taking film class in college - Perspectives on film. It's supposed to teach you the correct way to watch a movie, and yes there is a difference. Our last screening was in our THX cert. theater and the movie was Stagecoach. A classic John Wayne western film. I enjoyed it. Our next screening is Serenity.

Franco Zefferelli's Romeo and Juliet for High School English Literature. Good interpretation of Shakespeare's work. Made it easier for me to understand the play.

Seems like these are "safe bets" for Highschool...the range grows in scope once your in college. Would be nice to see some of these in my classes. Althought we are going to be seeing Taxi Driver, Easy Rider, and Chinatown, so i'm pumped!

I wish I'd taken cinema in high school. I'm planning on starting towards a film major in college next year so I'll have more to say then

. Watched a few shorts in a short form screenwriting class I took a couple of years ago but I don't remember them.

Well besides having years of film classes left I probably can expect and look forward to fetching coffee and donuts for a while as a production assistant. Which is fine with me cause you have to start somewhere. My gf is a RN so she tells me to take all the time in the world because she knows it's my passion. A friend of mine said I should start in porn??? hmmmm
