Your Favorite Computer Game Classics - Blu-ray Forum

Everyone will have a different definition of "classic," but I was doing some purging the other day and came across my original Macintosh copy of Dark Forces, one of the first games to introduce me to FPSs. Continuing on, I found an old copy of Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, and Power Pete! (I'd be highly impressed if anyone else remembered this game - it shipped with Apple Power PCs in the early-mid 90s). What favorites take you back?

I never really played games on the PC. I started with the Intellivision back in 1980 and went to the 8 bit Nintendo from there.
K...now I feel old.

Ditto - Intellivision rocked!

Baseball, Blackjack & Poker (the one that came with the unit), downhill skiing, burgertime, frog bog, any of the Electric Factory gmaes, lock n chase and that one where you have to hit the orange things with your space ship before the eath comes into full view or it is blown up (kind of a rip off of star wars and the death star) were my favorites.

But going from that to Nintendo was like going from SD to HD!
Then from NES to SNES was even better!

Compared to todays gaming though, the simpler games were much more fun althought they didn't last as long

Agreed on all counts. I remember playing Super Mario 3 and thinking that it doesn't get better than this. LOL.

I have a story about that game...I got money from relatives for a holiday (Easter I think) and I called around to all the stores to see if they had it...well, no one had it except KMart. So I begged my mom to take me there (2 exits up the highway - maybe 6-7 miles away) and she agreed. When it came time to pay for it, I couldn't find my money! I didn't know if I had lost it or what. So my mom sprung for it ($50+ tax) and I had to promise her to get her the money...well, I went home and there it was - on my bed - I forgot to put it in my pocket in my rush to get this game!

The point of that story is that even though consoles have gone up in price, the game price has remained fairly stagnant. $50 -$60 (with battery inside) for the NES games was the norm and I had dozens of them...amazing what I was able to do for money in grade school and early high school.

I remember Oregon Trail! What a ton of fun that was during middle school.

One of my favorite "classic" games, to this day, is the original Sim City. The subsequent releases haven't measured up to the original for me.

Actually, I lied. I did get addicted to Roller Coaster Tycoon on the PC when that first came out. I was a manager at Disneyland at the time and felt like I had the power of Walt Disney (cheezy but true).

RCT is still a great game - but once you use a trainer, you never go back!

Ant Attack and Lords of Midnight on the ZX Spectrum in early-mid 80s were big faves of mine, but my ultimate "classic" game would have to be Flashback on the Amiga in 1992. The rotoscoped character movements were incredible at the time. I found this video on Youtube, takes me back!!

Sim City was great too!
The Switzerland scenario was interesting - I replaced all the roads with trains - somehow fire and police were able to respond without issue!

Another one is Zaxxon - my uncle had it for his Atari 800 computer - you had to load it by cassette (yes, with a tape player and a data cable) - it took forever to load!

Do you mean actual computer games? I say "actual computer games" because I'm seeing some console games being mentioned...

FWIW: under absolutely no condition would I play any of those Tetris clone games for the PC. They were all crap and never stacked up to the "real" Tetrises from 8-bit NES and Game Boy from the late 1980s.

i have yet to play sims2 but i had the first Sims with all the expansions which definitely resulted in me failing a good many tests in high school

Kings Quest 1-5

but, my new computer classic that will always be with me is World of Warcraft...I will remember this game for years to come...no other game comes close to its greatness.
