That will save me having to import the US digibook, if the price drops, £19 is a bit much considering wowHD have the US release at £11.36 delivered.

I'll go to bat for Grease 2 as a bit of a diamond in the rough, but I thought we'd all sort of agreed Grease Live was genuinely magical and surprisingly well-done.

It's quite easily the best of the live TV specials of late. Not a high benchmark, of course, but you can absolutely tell it's the only one where all the major roles are filled by actors with long Broadway experience and directed by actual Broadway creatives. Extremely elaborate and cleverly-made. Glad to see it on Blu-ray in the UK, finally.

Hmm... the luxury of too many choices...

I'm going with the US Digibook because it also comes with the DVD which I like the option of having.
Then maybe the Zavvi Steel with Grease and Grease 2 - treating it as separate movie purchase with nice packaging.

Not against Grease Live, but I'll maybe catch it some other time rather than pay over the odds for the US Steel.

On Grease 2...

There was nothing wrong with it as a musical at all. It died for three distinct reasons (in my opinion).
1) It came at the tail end of a series of Hollywood musical flops.
2) It came out about a year after MTV started - and the kids were simply more interested in TV for music (1 year later the first MTV 'musical' Flashdance came out).
3) It was called 'Grease 2' and featured two unknown actors - that might have been the biggest mistake of all. I believe it was originally to be called 'Son of Grease' - which might have been a sillier name, but wouldn't have made the public think "John and Olivia are back?"

I saw Grease 2 before Grease, and for a while I liked it more, but the quality of Grease in terms of music and performers just won out over time. I still think Grease 2 is a perfectly enjoyable musical that can happily stand on my movie shelf.

Could have been worse: it could have been Two of a Kind...

Ah... the public were fooled by the re-team. It was an interesting concept, but a hell of a mess. However, because Olivia was still a big star at the time the theme song was a big hit (and the album was a minor hit). Not so for any of the songs on Grease 2...

Amazon have dropped the digibook down to £12, but you might want to read the review of the new disc and compare against the old disc. New release seems a touch soft, and a big colour shift.

I wasn't impressed with the alternate ending and it seems like the Roadshow version with all the additional and alternate scenes is still not being released. Maybe for the 50th Anniversary!

The new disc looks the best it ever has. There's always been an inherent softness to a lot of the movie. The colours really pop now, instead of that odd almost sepia tint that the previous (20th anniversary?) version had. The new disc of course HAS THE PROPER AUDIO MIX, which is worth the price alone!

I got the new "3 movie" set today. I've uploaded some packaging pics to the blu-ray.com listing but awaiting admin approval. It's 2 amarays in a slipbox.
Grease and Grease 2 share a case if that's going to bother anyone? Grease Live! gets it's own case.

That's a shame, it looks like the Walmart exclusive of the 3 film set in the USA is a single amaray in a slipcover and I was hoping it would be that, more for space purposes than aesthetics lol... Mine was only posted by HMV this morning so I'm not expecting it until Monday now.

The US Walmart exclusive 3-pack of films includes the booklet from the digibook slotted inside the case. Does the UK 3-pack have the booklet?

I don't think the digibook has many pages anyway (only 16 I think), and considering you can order the 3-pack at Zoom for £11.70, it's an option worth considering.
