And it has always been speculated that superior beings helped the Mayans build their temples. So for me, it was pure joy and excitement seeing it in an Indy film. And if you ask me, it is really that much more of a stretch than the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant? No, but everybody just acts as if it is because to question religion is sacreligious. Give me a break, everybody overhyped Indy IV so much that their expectations were not met. I agree that the "nuking the fridge" and "Tarzan scenes" were a tad ridiculous, but the movie was fun and action packed.

Agree with this 100%.

The Nuking the Fridge, the gophers, the Tarzan scene, the giant CGI killer ants, the reason for the Crystal skull, the amazingly simple way of figuring it all out. IE: the trail went cold at one point, and then they just jumped directly where they needed to be next.

The problem I find lies with the fact that the Holy Grail, or Ark of the Covenant are stuff that's in the bible, that religious scholars argue DOES exist, there's a ton of other stuff that they could have used from the bible, Aliens are something that people are iffy on if they exist or not, there are more people who are iffy about
[Show spoiler]aliens in N.A.
than people who believe in the bible. I'm not going to get into a religious debate here, but it's very likely that they would have sold more tickets if it were a religious article than they were dealing with rather than what they were putting in Indy 4.

Also, every action scene had an element of CGI in it, something that they didn't do in 1-3. Realistic action scenes do the series a great deal better justice than CGI tarzan boy swinging through the jungle.

Crystal Skulls doesn't fit with the other 3 in any way. I don't understand why instead of using CGI to make it look like the original trilogy, they should have just filmed it like the original trilogy. Spielberg said they filmed on location and used very little CGI when in reality the entire movie was CGI. I don't have a problem with the story they based the movie on, but the actual script was mediocre at best. The movie had a lot more camp then the first 3, and they should have used more subtle comic relief like they did in the originals instead of using gags like throwing a snake to rescue Indy when there are trees (with branches on them) surrounding you in every direction. If this movie had been National Treasure 3 I wouldn't have a problem with it, but as Indy IV, I think it is terrible.

It also features the worst performance by a lead actress in a Spielberg film, a performance given little assistance from the awful dialog by David Koepp.

I had heard that there was big discussion between Lucas and Spielberg as to which direction the movie was supposed to go. I'm guessing Spielberg wanted to keep a seriousness to it and that Lucas had always looked at them as Sunday matinee movies and wanted them to have 'camp to them. It's unfortunate cuz it seems that Lucas won out with Kingdom. Don't really get a 'camp' feeling with the first and third and maybe that's why the majority of votes have been for those two being the best.
