I wouldn't be shocked if Universal announces more titles early next week

Just watched FLETCH, thought it looked very nice. They did a good job with it.

How'd you get it so soon? That's great to hear, though. I'll put my order in right away. I love Fletch.

Default Bruce Almighty transfer question

Hi everyone!

I would like to know if the German Bruce Almighty BD has the same transfer as the U.S BD release?

I have recently rented the German version and it didn't look THAT bad to me.

Sure it was DNR'd to death (not as bad as T2 though, where it's much more annoying), and definition was severely lacking, but I didn't see the excessive noise, telecine wobble, or overly hot contrast levels as stated in the review on this site.

I found it acceptable , albeit barely, and would get for $10.99 at Amazon .com.

Can anyone verify that the transfer of those 2 releases is the exact same?

If both releases are by Universal, they should be the same transfer.

There are definitely different transfers of Bruce Almighty floating around on BD. The UK disc is from Disney and looks taken from a different master than the Universal BD. What studio released it in Germany?

The German transfer is better. They use the same as UK, which is released by Buena Vista.

Universal really can't be trusted on properly transferring a catalog property to Blu-ray. Many of their older releases have significant problems such as edge enhancement and DNR gone wild.

Oh, thanks for the replies. I had given up hope on ever receiving an answer already.

So, Touchstone is a daughter company of Disney, is it not?

If so, then this transfer is different/better than the Universal release in the U.S., right?

Why don't they just all team up, give it a PROPER transfer and then sell it in the individual territories?

Default Which Bruce Almighty is best.....if any?

I've seen the review here of the US version, which looks to be a big disappointment, but I'm wondering about the "region free" English and French versions, along with the "region A" Canadian version. As the UK and FR versions are through Disney/Buena Vista, I'm wondering if they are better than the US/CAN versions that are through Universal? I'm assuming the CAN version is the same as the lousy US version? Any thoughts.........thanks.

The UK certainly wins when it comes to technical specs differences:

US: VC-1 21345 kbps, DTS-HD MA 4227 kbps
UK: AVC 24100 kbps, LPCM 4608 kbps

I haven't seen it, but it is doubtful that it looks worse than the US Universal.

USA Bruce Almighty bluray

Ok folks questions here about this. Is this worth the upgrade to bluray? I've heard a lot of negative things about this one because of picture quality and sound. Do most of you guys own the DVD or bluray for this? I know this is a Universal title and well aware of how they are known for there so called bluray releases. This is what's frustrating about blurays

Yes, it's worth the upgrade.

Mods please move this to the main Bruce Almighty thread.

Probably not going to make a huge difference, but I'd opt for the UK release which is AVC encoded rather than VC-1 and has a higher bitrate.

I think it's just the commentary track, which the review here doesn't really paint a good picture of.
