Arrow The World is Not Enough

Just snagged this from Best Buy, definitely worth the double dip. Stunning film so far, with a very nice audio track and a pretty slip cover for the case as well.

Hear hear.

I can never understand why the producers decided to reboot Bond after DIE ANOTHER DAY, when this film was far worse, IMHO. DIE ANOTHER DAY, as incredulous as some may claim, was never as boring, needlessly complex, and saddled with a terrible villain as this one. And I will never find fault with an invisible car in comparison to Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist. Repeat those last six words in your head.

If they wanted to do the reboot after WORLD, I would have been a lot more accepting of the notion than I am now.

Waiting on the blu-ray.com review of this, doesn't seem like anyone has a review up yet.

Olga looked like she was PMS'ing. In the end scene, they turned Bond into a giant pu$$y. Hiding in a corner, hoping the fire would go away, yea that would the way James Bond would go He had less balls than a barbie doll in a pink frilly frock.
gtfo, not like the "classic Bond" was any better. Sean Connery's strapped to a table and about to be castrated by a laser, what clever method does he use to escape? Beg for his life.... "Please let me go, Goldfinger, I have information that may be useful to you! PLEASE!!!"

Daniel Craig's bond would own Sean Connery's bond in about three seconds flat in a one on one.

I think TWINE was a good movie.

It got a bad reputation imo. TWINE was definitely better than TND.

Both films suffer from bad casting, but the difference is that Tomorrow Never Dies has much better casting of the three leads, Brosnan and Yeoh are well-suited to their roles, while Pryce makes for a decent villain, at least given the nature of the character. Wonky casting can be found in the strange insertion of Americans, like Teri Hatcher (admittedly, beautiful here, before all the surgery), who is sorely out of her depth, Ricky Jay in a kind of strange role as "Mr. Gupta" (???) looking uncomfortable, as well as the cartoon German henchman Stamper, and maybe even the minor role of Dr. Kaufman (played by Vincent Schiavelli), but these are all smaller roles.

However, in The World Is Not Enough, you have major casting decisions that are bizarre, and not just Denise Richards as a "nuclear physicist". What on Earth possessed EON to think Robert Carlyle was a good fit for Renard? I'm a fan of Carlyle's, but he's hardly intimidating, and even moreso back in 1999, when his lead role in The Full Monty--which was undoubtedly what helped him get cast here--was fresh in the memory. Moreover, any chemistry with Sophie Marceau is unfortunately absent, unlike her scenes with Brosnan.

In fact, I think if EON really insisted on casting Richards, they should have cast her as Elektra, reduced the role so she tries to seduce Bond, but doesn't have a consummated love scene with him, and given Marceau the role of the nuclear physicist, obviously changing the character's name to something less American as well.

As for supporting characters, it's a bit weird to have Goldie as Zukovsky's bodyguard (thank God they brought Coltrane back as well, since his performance is pretty fun), but he's the least of the casting issues.

Of course, woeful casting choices continued with Die Another Day and Halle Berry, who is obviously gorgeous and a fine actor, but, not unlike Teri Hatcher, Berry just feels out of place and lacked chemistry with Brosnan. And Toby Stephens is completely forgettable as well, to say nothing of the weird plot machinations that mean he isn't who he appears to be.

Trainspotting, maybe? Otherwise I have no idea.

I think Carlyle looks more like a henchman rather than main villain. He's a damn good actor but the character is not great and he's miscast.

This and QoS are the most underrated Bonds. Replace Richards with just about anyone else and people would remember this movie much more fondly. And if one can argue that Goldeneye owes much of its reputation to the N64 game, TWINE's was even better, so that could only have helped.

Richards is miscast. Carlyle is fine, the whole invincible thing doesn't work if they cast someone who actually looks invincible lol

If Carlyle had played Renard the way he played Begbie in TRAINSPOTTING, he'd have been the scariest goddamn Bond villain ever.

I always thought The World is Not Enough was very underrated. It's one of my favourite Bond films. It also has my favourite Bond song by Garbage.
