I do not have a Tv mode choice under DRC: only wide, standard and auto. None of those worked for me. Am I missing some other DRC settings hidden somewhere else? I think I have explored all the menus.

What is dts?

My Bluray player is slightly different than S350 (itīs a BDP-S373), but I had the same problem about dialogue so that is why I posted on this thread. My only choices for DRC ARE: auto, standard, wide. I do not have a tv mode, so any other suggestions are much appreciated.

I am not sure whether you were laughing at me for not knowing what dts was, but this is a blu-ray forum, not a blu-ray-audio-geeks-only forum....so I would appreciate if you could see past my ignorance and actually come with information I can use. Much obliged.

HDMI cable directly connected from bluray player to tv. No other connections.

Yes unfortunately once selected, standard did not make a bit of difference Anything else I can do to solve this problem ?

No I was not laughing at you! The smiley was to indicate my post was not to be taken seriously (it was in humor)...trust me, I do not expect everyone to know everything. And I would never ridicule someone for not knowing.

Dts is another audio format, like Dolby Digital.

As I said though, Dts does not utilize DRC. So the dialogue will be lower.

Children of Men has Dts audio.

Alright, no worries. Apparently I only have problems with dts bluray discs then, as true HD did not give me any problems on Body Of Lies; actually refreshing to be able to discern every word for a change!

Iīve read most bluray have or will have dts, so any way to solve this with dts discs? Are Sony bluray players not built for dts discs or what am I missing here?

Dynamic Range Control is not a proprietary feature of Sony bluray players. All bluray players (that I know of) use DRC.

But DRC only affects Dolby audio. So its not really something Sony needs to address, rather maybe something Dts can change to utilize DRC in the future?

Well yes but I still have a brand new bluray player which can not successfully play dts bluray discs. If I am sold bluray player+tv, I expect them to work without the need for an expensive surround system...

Your best option is to just accept that dialogue on certain movies will not be ideal, or to invest in a sound system. I run a 3.1 system now, use to have a 7.1 system but do to my new house living room layout, 3.1 suits me just fine.

Some people would settle for a 2.0 or 2.1 setup...but with 3.1 I still get my center channel!

Your Bluray player plays Dts discs just fine. Again, its something Dts has to change/fix (if they ever will?)...not your Bluray player!

Please bear with me and my ignorance A 3.1 setup would be a 3-speakers setup? I have looked into buying something but I really have no space for it and I canīt believe that I even need to buy an extra audio setup. Do you mean to say that all bluray players owners have an external audio setup? I do not think everyone has the dialogue sound problem, so maybe itīs not all about the dts?

Because your TV does not have a dedicated center channel, dialogue has to be mixed in with everything else. This is your biggest problem. Your TV only has Stereo playback. Basically it is taking 5.1/7.1 audio and outputting them as 2.0

There is no designated center channel for dialogue!

Ok so youīre practically saying that I do need a surround system? But what about those other lucky people who can actually all bluray movies through their tv speakers with no problems? Why canīt I be one of them? hehe

3.1 is three speakers and a subwoofer.

I have a center, left and right speaker (3)...and a subwoofer (.1) = 3.1

Ok gotcha! Too bad I have absolutely no space for all that, so I guess I have to find another solution. I have read someone else having more luck switching bluray player, but how can this be if the problem is with dts and not the player?
