Keeping in mind that I already own a stand alone Blu Ray player for playing my blu's should I get a PS3 for it's exclusive titles or not. I love the 360 for third party games like Madden but I love baseball and am fed up with the poor excuse that is the 2K franchise even after 3 years now it's nowhere near MLB The Show.

So is the Show and other PS3 exclusive titles worth the 549 before tax I would have to spend. 399.99 for the PS3, 79.99 for the Sony - HDMI Cable / USB 2.0 Cable Pack for PlayStation 3 and 59.99 for MLB 09 The Show or not?
Toys R Us is selling PS3s with a $50 gift card. That should help.

Generally speaking, on any 1080 resolution TV, you always want to choose 1080 resolution to avoid stretching (and blurring) the image.
OK that's what I thought you meant thanks for clearing that up and man that Toys R Us deal is pretty sweet if I end up not needing trade in money I'll jump on that, only pretty much paying 15 bucks cash with tax for The Show can't beat that!

I think that the PS3 exclusives have by and large been worth it and it's a fine BD player too. I stopped looking for a standalone BD player and have been pleased with both the PS3 exclusives I've bought (Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Killzone 2) as well as the crossovers. The PS3 is quickly becoming the most heavily used device in my living room besides the TV.

Yes it is! The PS3's lineup of games for late this year will blow away anything. You get a media center the PSN games are pretty good. As well as all EA titles as well as other exclusives that are popping up on the system.

... ill try to explain the original concept.

Heres my poor attempt to explain what the other person tried to itterate to you.

At 720p you get the anti aliasing which generally makes things look better.

Anti Aliasing is a digitial signal processing technique here are some examples.

On the left an aliased diamond, on the right an anti aliased diamond.

On the left aliased checkboard, on the right anti aliased checkerboard.

Anti aliasing gives up a cleaner image but note what it did, it added bluring which in reality does not give us a better picture.

Anti Aliasing requries a additional cost to the unit.

At 1080p it pushes a much higher resolution, in which anti aliasing is turned off but the resolution pushes a sharper image.

Thus your choice is 720P clean image vs 1080p sharp image

You can see which one you prefer.. anyway thats what I think they were trying to explain in not so many words.

I would say it depends upon how adaptable you are. I bought a PS3 mainly for blu-ray playback..... but a large part of my decision to choose the PS3 instead of a standalone player was that it is also a game console and I am a huge fan of gaming.

I wanted to like my PS3 for gaming.... and I have given it every fair shot... bought a couple of games.... tried every demo for every game type I might like.... but I just CAN NOT get into gaming on my PS3. I'm a multiplayer FPS fan... and IMO.... the sixaxis is awful for shooters..... especially if you are already used to a 360 controller.

If you didn't already have a blu-ray player...... I'd say what are you waiting for.... pick up the PS3. Even if you don't enjoy gaming on it..... you'd be able to use it for blu-ray. However.... since you already have a standalone BR player and a game console you enjoy.... I'd say try out the PS3 before you buy it. Play a friend's, or see if you can rent it from the video store.

off topic, but how did you guys get the PS3 to defaultly upscale games to 1080p?

Say my Saints Row 2, Prince of Persia, and Dead Space. On the back of the game box it says "supported HD formats: 480p, 720p, 1080p".

The first time I run them they all run at 1080p fine.
Then, I'm not sure if it was a PS3 firmware or a game patch, but now they all run at 720p, and my TV (a Sharp 32" 1080p LC32GP3U) displays the resolution as 720p. My PS3 HDMI settings are set to "Auto", and it detects that my TV can do all the resolutions known to people kind.

The only possible solution I've come up with is to manually change the HDMI video settings to "1080p" ONLY.

Side note: Blu-ray playback and DVD upscaling is 1080p, as my TV shows.

How big of a sports fan are you? MLB 09 The Show is by far the best baseball game on the market, it's also arguably the best sports game out right now. Everybody has different system sellers, plenty of people bought a $300 system for one game (Halo 3), plenty others bought a 400EU system for one game (GT5P) and so on, if you really love baseball then it might be worth it to you.

You make a good point but I'm not to worried I used to have the PS2 and the controller looks exactly the same, still I might just do that so thanks.

Well it seems like you only prefer the 360 cause the controller is better for you. other than that you can find the same games on both 360 and ps3. what was is that you couldn't get into? maby your just an xbox type person (not that theres anything wrong with that )

Not sure why you would mention the six axis since the dual shock 3 is out now and I would assume that would be the controller he gets with his PS3. I don't mind my six axis, by the way.

I personally prefer the PS3 controller for any genre, the 360 controller is pretty good though and especially good for shooters, but I can easily adapt to almost any controller.

Yeah the duel shock comes with it and it's the one that looks no different than a PS2 controller.

It's 75% controller preference and 25% the networking problems I have with my PS3. I've had it over a year and I've yet to be able to maintain a solid network connection with it no matter what I have tried... and I have tried everything including a new router. If I could get those two things cleared up.... there are several games on the PS3 that really piqued my interest. I actually liked Resistance and played it almost to the very end... but when things started getting really thick... the controller issues did me in.
