i am sure I could think of more if I was at home looking at my dvds.
When Toy Story first came out...it was like nothing else..There weren't all of these animated/cgi movies.

And I had to put pirates there because it had some great ideas in it..so many things were going on at the same time.

"Following" was a film that used many of the same "effects" (for lack of a better word) as Memento to tell the story..... same director

IMO 2001: A Space Odyssey is truly a unique one-of-a-kind film. The sequel 2010 seemed to me much more commercial mainstream sci-fi. I'm thinking Arthur C. Clarke and Kubrick must've both stopped doing acid by the time it was written and turned into a screenplay.

Blade Runner, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and of course Star Wars.

Just some examples.....
The Dark Knight
Sunshine
The Killer
Hard Boiled
Battle Royale
Gangs Of New York
Natural Born Killers

Definitely agree with some of the films mentioned by other users as well.

Others if I am not choosing just one:

Naked Lunch
Happiness
Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story
Vernon, Florida
Freaks
Ken Park (though I don't really like it, it was one of a kind)
Happiness is one messed up movie.

yes, same director, although I think "Following" has some subtle differences: its not strictly reverse-chronology, from what I gather it jumps around (part 1, part 5, part 2, part 6, part 3, etc). on that basis, its even more complex than memento, and yet still pulls it off...in only an hour!!! can't believe its not more popular. definitely will buy this day 1 on Blu!!

Yeah..I doubt it will be out any soon though... Memento deserved a better treatment. Such a great film, but the PQ/AQ aren't that great. Prestige was great though

Hopefully Following will also get a good treatment =]

Thumbs up

Here are some films that have either: left an impression on me, brought a dead genre back to life, were groundbreaking and have spawned countless ripoffs or are truly are one-of-a-kind.....

2001: A Space Odyssey

Akira

Alien

An American Werewolf In London

Apocalypse Now

Apocalypto

Being John Malkovich

Clerks

Fight Club

Forrest Gump

Memento

Night Of The Living Dead (1968)

Oldboy

Pulp Fiction

Requiem For A Dream

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Superman I

The City Of Lost Children (La cité des enfants perdus)

The Dark Crystal

The Exorcist

The Godfather Parts I & II

The Matrix

The Passion Of The Christ

.....and any film by my favorite director, Terry Gilliam (except for The Brothers Grimm). Not many other directors can transport you to other worlds like he does.
