I'd been reluctant about Panasonic products in general for as long as I can remember (Samsung as well for that matter). The last thing I bought with a Panasonic nametag before I got my new TV and Blu-ray player was a walkman in like 1990!

I've had no problems with Panasonic players. I have an S97 that I used to use for DVDs and DVD-Audio. It's now in the bedroom. And I have a BD55 as my main player. Both have performed flawlessly.

Ditto with my S77, Panasonic makes good stuff. Their TVs have been getting good reviews too. Your S97 must be the newer model to my S77, eh? I'm keeping it right under my new BD80, I have a few DVD-A disks I love. "LOVE" being one, a couple Blue Man Group......

I just got my player and hooked it up. My master bedroom setup is now nearly complete (for now). I popped in Iron Man just to make sure it played correctly. Check. It looks really nice from the limited test on my infant Panasonic HDTV.
I'm having some kind of issue with the network, though. For some reason, I can't seem to connect at all. The bizarre thing is the network test passes, and it is picking up an IP address via my router that is serving up DHCP. I've got my DirecTV HD DVR, HTPC, and even my Panasonic HDTV (with Viera Cast and everything) all hooked up to the switch in my room, and the only thing not fully working is the new BD60. I don't have an SD card yet, so I could see why BD-Live wouldn't work, but it should still be able to connect for a firmware update. Any ideas? |

What router do you have??
Try pluging it into another port on the router. I have the 80 model and it was just plug & play. I have a little something odd about it playing DVD's it makes this highish pitch sound, it is not loud, it is like it's spining faster but it is not there when playing BD. Are DVD's spoun faster then BD's??? I 1st thought that the disks may not be balanced as good as the BD's. |

The full network is something like this: Modem -> Linksys wireless router (with four hard line ports) -> switch #1 -> switch #2 The components are "in line" such that the modem feed the Linksys router, the router feeds switch #1, and switch #1 feeds switch #2. Everything works except for the new Panasonic player. |

I have a bad feeling it's the player. But yeah, the next test is going to be connecting it straight to the router. The problem with that is the way my stuff is set up in that all cables are hidden and stuff. It's going to be a huge project just to troubleshoot it. |

![]() My router is open and accessible enough that I can disconnect one of the working components in my network, then plug in the player to it. The router just isn't close to any of my TVs, so I'll have to run a video cable somehow (or a long ethernet patch). A picture would be worth well more than a thousand words in this scenario to help illustrate my setup. |

OK, well it's definitely something in the player. I didn't do the full troubleshoot yet where I plug the player directly to the router, but I did unplug it from its switch and then plug in my laptop to the same port using the same cable, and it worked.

Finally got it squared away! It turns out it was the settings in the player after all. It may have been a combination of the player and my network configuration -- e.g. modem to router to switch #1 to switch #2 -- that was bugging things and preventing it from being plug-and-play like most have experienced, but overall it wasn't something inherently "wrong" with my side of things. I felt good about that.
I called tech support and explained that I couldn't connect to Viera Cast even though my network test passed. The weird thing is after I explained this to the tech, she put me on hold to see if someone else had any ideas because she had none. She came back to the phone and said there were two directions we could go... what's been said already in this thread: go hook it up directly to the router or modem and see what happens. I told them I'd like to take option B, since that wasn't really feasible for my setup. I also explained that I hooked up a laptop to the same port using the same cable as the the player, so she agreed that going straight to modem may have been kind of a waste since obviously it was something in the player. So option B was to change the DNS settings. I manually inputted 4.2.2.1 as the primary and 4.2.2.2 as the secondary. After setting those -- BAM -- Viera Cast was up and running. I'm glad that we were able to figure this out, albeit after about 25-30 minutes on the phone. I am a little surprised, though, that the tech didn't know straight away that I should change my DNS settings. If we would have known that in the beginning, the problem would have been solved in under a minute. Last edited by brettallica; 05-08-2009 at 04:12 AM. |
