How long did it take you to make the poll?
hey jason im the OP for this thread for some reason, sombody merged this thread then they even change my question... im getting no love here today... it took about 15-20 mins to fill in the info... their was more then i thought, their still is a lot more but i figured id start losing people on the poll list....i guess people can't really complain when a studios wants to do a remake... i feel most of these are worthy over their originals

They're a lot of great remakes on that list but i had to pick The Departed!

...3:10 to Yuma and Man on Fire were also one of the best remakes

I picked Scarface, but then I realized that I never saw the original.

Scarface.

LOL I saw the original on TCM. It was good. But I thought the remake was better.

Can someone add Phillip Kaufman's 1978 remake of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS to the list? Siegel's original was superb, but so was Kaufman's brilliant remake which built and expanded on the themes of the original. Not to mention it was scary as hell!

Is that the one with Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams?

This one is pretty difficult for me. Of all the movies on the list where I've seen the original AND the remake, I don't think there's a single one where I enjoyed the remake more than the original. Personally, I'll take the original versions of War of the Worlds, King Kong, Invasion of the Body Snatchers or Planet of the Apes over the remakes any day.

not possible to pick the best--

but my favorite is well... look at my avatar.

I would add this--

MAN ON FIRE blows away the original as does THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, THE
BLOB, and THE FLY.

While I'm sure many would disagree but I thought that TEXAS CHAINSAW,
SHAFT, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978), and DAWN OF THE
DEAD were every bit as good as the originals...

I will agree that Peter Jackson's KING KONG was an excellent remake!
but the 1933 is an absolute classic that is one of the greatest movies
ever made..

Yes indeed. Also, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy. The film is brilliantly written (by W.D. Richter)... and the "pod scream" still gives me the creeps after all these years.

I would give this remake the nod over the original if it had been included in the poll. I really got into it.

I'd say Man on Fire is the best remake but I haven't seen the original.

For me the best remake has to be Peter Jacksons remake of LOTR. The original did not even finish the story.

The Dawn of the Dead remake was pretty damn good, not as good as Romero's classic original, but hey the director went on to make 300!
