Ezydvd states it's region B. Could they have really changed it?? Does anyone know of a site that shows the Icon version with the A, B, C that shows this disc is, indeed, region free? Last edited by Veronica Mars; 09-22-2010 at 06:37 AM. |

EzyDVD, like Amazon UK, does not test region playability on discs. The person(s) who enter information on the products also does not have access to the actual products, again like Amazon UK. The person keying in the information is going to use the safest specifications possible. Hence the "Region B" notation. Match Point is a Region A, B, and C disc and will work on US and Canadian Blu-ray Disc players. |

Wow, thanks for all the help everyone!
I googled online stores in Australia and must have sent 10 e-mails asking if they'd check if that disc was region free. I was nervous because I could have sworn I knew this was out and since I passed on it before, I'm guessing my research came out that it wouldn't play in my region A player. At least Chaos states it's region free, so if there is a problem they'd have to take it back. But, for now, I'm just excited to add this to my collection! And get rid of another SD DVD. The icing on the cake would be if against all odds, the Icon release of Bend it Like Beckham also turns out to be region free. It might be the only chance I get to ever owning it in HD. Again, thanks everyone. I appreciated all the help. Spending $30 on a blu can't be an every day occurrence but September was a slow month. One of the places I found when I used google was named Atlantic and they had MP listed at around $15US. But they haven't responded and I got burned once by ordering from a place that didn't get any recommendations here and Chaos is definitely trustworthy company. |

That's half what I paid Chaos. Maybe it was a pricing error, but I really went with Chaos because they listed region 0, all regions, in their item description, and with some confusion on this title about whether it might have been released once region free and again region B locked, I wanted to have no problem with returning it should something not be what I'm expecting. Chaos can't say, "we listed it as region B and you shouldn't have bought it." Atlantic could have. If there wasn't the issue with some people saying it didn't play in region A players or if there was a review posted stating it was region free, I would have probably ordered from Atlantic even if it ended up taking an extra week to get here because they aren't as efficient as Chaos or Ezydvd. $15 for this is quite the deal. It's amazing that people who just think Woody Allen has lost his touch or don't like his classics don't want to see this. It's truly a great movie. It makes Vicky Christina Barcelona look like Road Trip. I still don't understand why so many titles are getting released elsewhere but not here and supposedly it's about money. I think more money would be made in the US for Pulp Fiction, Match Point, and Amelie (to name a few) than in much less populated countries like England or Australia. I just don't get it. Big thanks to Howarmat for getting the ball rolling in allowing me to add Match Point to my BD collection. |

But, at the very least, Chaos lists it as all regions on their own website, so they'd be responsible for return shipping and a refund because I followed their information. If there was a repressing of region B locked blus and I bought it from a site that lists it as region B (all of the others I checked stated region B only), I'd have taken a shot and to add insult to injury I'd be out the money to send it back as defective. Besides, I know you'll give me your region free Blu if I get a region B locked copy. ![]() edit to add: This site also claims Icon's version is region free. When I have time, I'm going to have to give that list a good looking over. I'm not going to import a ton, but maybe a few titles I really want are out there and I never knew it. http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b Last edited by Veronica Mars; 09-23-2010 at 04:00 AM. |

Of the over 10 places in Australia about this, only ezydvd wrote to me stating that they checked and saw that the discs were region free and that they changed their website info to reflect that. A few companies insist it's region B locked and it's not that they don't even want to check, they just reply that it just couldn't be that they would carry anything that was region free. One replied that she checked about the blu ray with her distributor and told me she knew it was REGION 4 and she couldn't help me further. No need to name names. It's just great that a Chaos had it right, that ezydvd actually cared enough to look and get it right for their customers, and the people on this board are so generous with their time and in sharing the information that makes it possible for me to get something I really wanted, but thought I couldn't get. So thanks again to everyone here. I should just move to Australia. I really would love to, but there are so many critters, on land and in the sea, that will kill you, and I've heard Aussie men, no matter the age, love nothing more than beating the snot out of each other and foreigners. ![]() |

Sorry, thought this one was settled guys and girls.
Trust me folks, this is region free. I have region A Sony blu rays in my home and it played perfectly. So anyone who ever digs up this thread from now on, it's 100%. Order it now if you like the movie, and will play in the region A without a region free player. You'll never have to upgrade. I don't think it will ever look better and Woody Allen won't add anything to a US release. The DVD release had nothing but a trailer for Munich. |
