Who changed the title of my thread now ?
![]() I don't like this new title, it's too conservative and does not go well with my personality ![]() |

lol, I just joined this site. I'm here almost everyday reading things, but I try not to get too involved in forums. Most people speak with little or no knowledge, and it's just frustrating.
The "beauty" of some deadly viruses is that they kill quickly, and therefore are self limiting. Take Ebola, for example... if you get that, chances for survival are quite low, and it kills you quickly, limiting how long you can spread it around. Problem is, these viruses adapt; even Ebola is cropping up in some areas where they're realizing it's taking longer to kill, thereby increasing it's chances to be spread. The flu already has this quality. I'm very suspiciuos of this particular outbreak, and I would imagine it's been incubating in Mexico, or somewhere nearby, for a month or more. I realize the media sensationalizes everything, and... |

...that the cases in North America, or around the world may not be this particular strain, but time will tell. Keep in mind that getting lab results(isolating the cause) takes time; you must acquire a sample from each person, ship it to a lab capable of performing PROPER testing, do the test, then report the results. That would take probably 2 days minimum for most areas, so all the news you get is already old, so to speak.
If you thought the current financial crisis is bad, imagine how something like this would affect the economy if it spreads. Productivity will stop; no shipping, no food, no meds, overflowing hospitals, martial law, civil war... but that's not too likely, I hope. |

Exactly; expect stocks in certain biomedicals to go up tomorrow. They already did last week a bit. War, of any kind, is always for profit.

Ignorance is bliss, I guess, but it can also kill you. This is already unlike SARS in both fatalities and scope. I hope you're correct, that this is just
being hyped, but we'll see... By the way, "SARS and the rest of them"?? SARS isn't even a disease, it's a symptom. And what exactly are the rest? Just wondering... Last edited by BlackandBlue; 04-27-2009 at 12:42 AM. |

It'a always better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure this will all blow over like previous pandemic scares but it's still good to be on the alert. The media sure is blowing it out of proportion though, I don't think they realize that. They can create a panic out of nothing and they need to give it a rest.

30,000-40,000 deaths due to drunk driving every year in the US...
1.3 Million deaths world wide every year do to lung cancer. 14,000 people are infected with AIDS every day. etc ...many more important things to worry about than this years 'scare' of the flu. Next week it will be some 'scare' about the Turtle flu or the Goldfish influenza. |

I am not saying people should not take precautions, but the disease so far looks extremely contained (Mexico city) and extremely far from me (and all others on this site). On the other hand you have full of panicky posts. |
